Hakon
It was the best news Hakon had heard since their return from Canaan. Most likely the best news he had since he heard of the Ironspine System itself. He couldn’t wait to leave the System, and never return to it.
System-lord Pamlea Lum was thrilled with the outcome of the way the 113th handled the raiders and pirates which had threatened the people she was sworn to protect. Most of all she was happy that the mission had been finished ahead of schedule, and the legion would be leaving the system with a completed contract. She had even added in a bonus for the hard work of the legion, which Hakon knew his brothers and sisters in the legion were happy about, but credits were not something that he was ever worried about.
Even in exile, Hakon had access to vast sums of credits. He was most likely more wealthy than any member of his own retinue, although they would not know it. He didn’t flaunt it, nor did he spoil himself. He kept his gear in top shape, but it was old. Everything from his rifle to Power armor had once belonged to his ancestors, the lords of Highgard.
Now Hakon was back on board the ‘Axe Tooth’, and the four starships of the line were on their way to the outer edges of the system where they could power their jump drives, and jump from the ship as they began their journey back to the Jom System.
The horrors of Canaan were enough for Hakon to look forward to starship travel, and FTL Jumps. Cannibals were a new low, and something he wished never to see again in his life. He still dreamed of what he saw on that world. The fresh bite marks in the roasting flesh. The smell that made it’s way into the power armor. The sight of those who were still alive, and being harvested bit by bite by their captors.
Other than the slaves which were still alive, Hakon had never thought he would obey an order to take no prisoners once the extent of the horrors of the cannibals came to be known. None survived the encounter with the 113th. They had spent two days on world tracking down those who had fled into the wild. He didn’t feel shame in the knowing that he had taken part in hunting down those animals. They wanted to pretend they were, and so they were treated as such.
Hakon let out a sigh as the ship alarm went off to announce the incoming jump. The first jump of a hundred or so jump until they were back in the Jom System where they would be safe for a short period of time. At least until they took the next contract, and he hoped it would have nothing to do with cannibals.
