Beacons, Bounties, & Bonds Campaign Overview
The Beacons, Bounties, & Bonds campaign follows the adventures of new members of the Triple B Guild. They are based in "The Spike" guildhall on The Tortoise in the Kirinal Concordance Zone. They will be given the opportunity to take on the roles of Concordant Beacon Finders, Bounty Hunters, and Bond Chasers. They'll explore the multiverse while grappling with the gray areas of their chosen profession.
The new group, The Returners, come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all seem to be fleeing some sort of trouble in their past.
Theme & Mood
The main group in this campaign has been playing together for more than a decade. I've been playing with them for going on 4 years now. This will be the 2nd 1 to 20 campaign that I put them through.
With this campaign, I'm exploring the moral gray areas between the three types of jobs that they can take. We're also fleshing out the Tortoise Slice portion of my world that hasn't been one of the main focuses.
As usual, we'll be combining high adventure with dark whimsy. I can do a serious campaign for a session or two, but I do tend towards zany slapstick.
Goals & Inspiration
I'm hoping to give them a solid mix of "The Mandalorian", "Django Unchained", and the martial arts show "Warrior."
I'll be drawing heavily from: my MCDM books, "Path of the Planebreaker", "Planescape", and "Spelljammer" for the RPG elements. John Wick and the Witcher should be good to pull from for the guild aspects of the game.
The Characters
- Gundar Starveil
Dwarf Monk/Warrior of Mercy. A former Zone Authority Police officer who has had 9 ex-spouses. He takes a new vow every time he gets divorced. He never wants to marry again, which of course makes him super attractive to those into strong, dark, hairy, muscular dwarves.
- Laszlo Cravensworth
Human Bard/College of Lore. Yes, this is a direct pull from "What We Do In The Shadows", but with a Maharlitech spin. Since the player chose this path, I'm introducing vampires, Nadja, and as much of the character from the show as possible. His most popular alias is "Jackie Daytona."
- Taela Wrenleaf
Elf Ranger/Beast Master. A washout from the Thayan Armada who drinks to forget her upbringing as an Entulesse in Faerie. She "missed" her flight to the Shattered Moon and was assigned to Triple B to get her out of the hair of her superiors. Her panther companion Saladin is horrifically capable.
- Veoric sun Rozzo
Tiefling (Dhampir) Warlock/Celestial Paron. Born a tiefling into an aristocratic house, Veoric became a warlock because that's the only acceptable profession for him. He came under the influence of a miniature clockwork sphinx named Gyrosphinx. His patrons speak to him, and reward him, through the mechanical beast.
Supporting Cast
- Finder Shepherd Numan
Soulforged Beacon Finder. The most famous beacon finder in the Zone and the Returners' mentor. He tries to steer them to jobs that will make him proud. He hates bond chasers.
- Guildmaster Raithara Stoneshield
Dwarf Fighter. Current guildmaster of The Spike, responsible for assigning contracts and managing operations. She speaks with a southern accent and is smitten by Gundar. She does not share Numan's concerns about bonds.
- Toven Ostellos
Half-elf Rogue and Quartermaster (they/them). Toven keeps the party equipped with mundane gear at bargain prices. They also have a stock of magic items that changes every week. They can get you anything you need through their "connections". It's best not to inquire too deeply into their methods.
- Stew the Awakened Moth
An awakened moth and alchemist who lives in the Feywild. He owns the tavern Stew's Brews and is constantly creating new potions of varying power. They have a series of gates in their establishment and have formed a friendship with the party.
- The Grave Order
Another group at the Guild who specializes almost exclusively in bond chasing. They are not scrupulous about bringing in their quarry dead or alive.
