WorldEmber 2024 Homework
WorldEmber is coming... FINALLY!
WorldEmber 2024 couldn't come soon enough! I've been in a creative lull this year. I had a job scare where I thought I was going to be laid off. I ended up being retained, but my team has been cut down to only 2 people and I lost some coworkers who have become very good friends of mine. We had two named hurricanes go through my part of the world. The elections this year did not go how I wanted.
As a result I've been distracted from writing. But the act of getting my WorldEmber homework done and assembling my articles has been legitimately calming. The act of creation is settling me down and I'm so thankful for this community and this platform.
Homework Week 1
Pledge
I'm going for the 25K goal again this year. I haven't written very much this year and I think getting words in will help reset me creatively.
Area of Focus
I have a new world, but with very little in it! Maharlitech will be the "official setting" version of the World of Wizard's Peak. WoWP will continue to be my homebrew setting, but I'm hoping to have an actual "product" in Maharlitech Publishing.
I'm going to use WorldEmber to prepare my world for eventual publication. I want to flesh out (but not too much) the Kirinal Concordance Zone with an eye for making it a "real" setting for RPG's and stories.
I'll have a subgoal of stomping out stubs, but I think I'll focus on getting my "Slice" articles actually written up this year.
Meta
I'll be working on the meta for Maharlitech once I'm done with all this homework. Keep yours eyes peeled!
Homework Week 2
The Week 2 homework is going to be a heavy lift for me this year. The homepage, primer and community tools for World of Wizard's Peak is a bit of a fine-tuned machine. It's literally featured in a lot of World Anvil's demos!
In comparison, my Maharlitech assets are just templates with almost nothing on them. My team and I have a lot of work to do.
Homework Week 3
This assignment is to go look for inspiration! I'm currently watching Arcane, finally catching up on Shogun, rewatching "Deadpool & Wolverine", reading my comic books. I haven't actually had the space for anything besides brain rot phone games this year, and I'm finally ready for some real inspiration.
Homework Week 4
Week 4 is all about friendship and community. One of the best things about World Anvil is the community that we've built over the years. I've made some real friends, even some that I've met in real life, through this platform! Being an Anvilite has changed my life for the better.
Community
The community on Discord continues to be as strong as possible. After the past few years, I've abandoned my presence on Twitter, but I'm finding a cool new home on Blueksy. Come find me there and follow me! There are a lot of other Anvilites there and I'm pleasantly surprised by how chill and thoughtful people are over there.
As always, my closest World Anvil friends continue to be ECCBooks, Sable Aradia, and the folks over at Game of Thrones. They're friendly and fun and you should check them out!
Writing Schedule
One of my big personal obstacles this year has been the day-to-day distractions. I'm going to carve out time in the morning to write. I'll set my clock an hour earlier and write first thing in the morning.
Keeping the Energy Levels Up
The recommendation in the homework is to go out, meet up with friends, and rest so you're ready for the writing challenge. I definitely have a busy social schedule, but I need to get in exercise! I generate some of my best ideas during physical exertion, so I'll try to add walks, stretching, and bodyweight exercises to my routine.
Good luck reaching your goal. I like your idea about carving out time at the same time every day. I hope you have a lot of fun this WorldEmber. :D
Thank you so much! Good luck for World Ember to you and remember to have fun!!
