Worldbuilding Awards 2022 Personal Reading Challenge
I was very surprised on Saturday night to discover that my world and three of my articles had been nominated for World Anvil's "Worldbuilding Awards 2022". Please check out the nominations and vote for who you think is the best. I'd love your vote if you think I deserve it. But honestly, I'm incredibly honored to be nominated.
Reminder! Voting is open until March 17, 2023!
Nominated World and Articles
- Best World of 2022! - World of Wizard's Peak
- The Hearts & Minds Award - Journeys of a Momma Bunny
- Rise of Nations Award - Talino
- Strength & Honor Award - Tridenser Host
Personal Reading Challenge
I'm giving myself a personal reading challenge to read and hype up all the categories that I'm nominated in. Time permitting, I'll do the rest of the categories as well!
The Hearts & Minds Award 2022
An article touching on intellectual, sociological, spiritual or cultural accomplishments and traditions of a people in the world.
Brachyur Culture
by RiverFang
Riverfang delivers a deep-dive analysis of an undersea culture. These peaceful crab-folk have a strict set of beliefs and an altruistic outlook. Lots of great details on their cuisine and customs.
Korbasan Ethnicity
by TJ Trewin
TJ focuses on a group of crow-folk who have been traditionally viewed as "mountain pirates". They do less pirating nowadays and much more surfing and snowboarding!
Mykaran Soul Cages
by Darkseid
In the shortest, yet most chilling article, Darkseid describes the funeral rituals of a people terrified of their own dead. Cremated ashes are mixed into paint, trapping hungry souls in a portrait!
Togae, He Who Sings Death
by Stormbril
Stormbril's entry for last year's bard challenge tells how a frail young man became a reknowned "singer of the dead." Featuring incredible CSS animation that tells the story!
Journeys of a Momma Bunny
by Kitoypoy
My own entry for this category features Ambrosia the Shard Drifter and her travelogue of the Shards of Thaya. She travels with all the comforts of home in the Cloud Warren.
Rise of Nations Award 2022
An article relevant to the history of civilisations and peoples of the world, and their legacies.
Talino
by Kitoypoy
This one is near and dear to my heart. It's my in-world analog of my own Filipino culture. I put my own experiences through a fantasy RPG filter. I'm VERY happy that this one was nominated.
Cotton Candy Dwarves
by Emily Armstrong
I'm a big fan of Emily's Culinary Punk! Instead of sentient food people, these are "normal" dwarves with cotton candy beards! Lots of fun details, including marital traditions and a recipe for real candy!
River Cáruc
by TJ Trewin
The inimitable TJ follows the River Cáruc, describing flora, fauna, and the people living beside it. The article also features fantasy industries such as glow-jellyfish farming and floating bones markets.
Anastasia Romanov - Enemy of the World
by Darkseid
The tale of a ruthless woman who overcame her low birth, destroyed her enemies, and became an Empress. Darkseid presents a compelling biography of a self-made conqueror with many admirable traits despite her penchant for bloody war.
Altruistic Concilium of Sacred Architecture
by Stormbril
The amazing Stormbril presents a sinister group of assholes who believe that they know better than everyone else. They don't care who they have to kill or how much sorrow they cause in their quest to build a new god.
Strength & Honor Award 2022
An article relevant to the interactions of the people of your world across a grand scale — diplomacy, war, trade and collaboration, and the people who drive and engineer them
Battle of Netter
by Dhelian
A very well described battle from Dhelian's world of Lethea between peasants and a "noble" army. He goes into the strategy and gives an almost blow for blow account of the battle and it's aftermath! I learned a lot just by reading this.
Plague of Dreams
by Qurilion
When I first joined World Anvil, Qurilion was a big influence on my world building and I'm extremely honored to be nominated next to him. This tale of a plague that causes a shared nightmare in a city is harrowing and a little too close to real life. I highly recommend it.
Tridenser Host
by Kitoypoy
I've been intentionally trying to single out a variety of viewpoint characters in my world to give some life to otherwise dull descriptions of my made up world. The Mechanical Man at the Gate of Heaven has become one of my favorites.
Irates
by Naelin
A rough story from Naelin about the rise of a ruthless pirate guild. Content warnings for violence are well deserved. Lots of thoughtful details about a despicable group that are well written, but possibly upsetting.
Ash Barklow: Procurement Officer of Barklow's Books
by Stormbril
Stormbril is a co-nominee in every category I'm nominated and I do not like my chances! This is the biography of a "small" person in a larger than life world. Lots of first person storytelling and cool CSS interactive interstitials.
Best World
I don't have a lot to say here actually. I'm looking at this image from strixxline and I'm overawed by the worlds that my little Wizard's Peak is sandwiched between. These are all world builders who I've admired for years and simply being in their company is amazing. Thank you to the judges who've put me here.
I'm going to drop links to their worlds and I definitely encourage you to explore their deep and immersive creations.
This is a great idea and such a lovely way to support people! <3
Thank you! After strixxline made those images, I thought this was the natural follow-up.
Take a look at my Institutions of Learning challenge article.
