Summer Camp 2022 Reading Challenge

EmilyArmstrong is one of my favorites in the new crop of writers here on World Anvil. Her articles are always well thought out, entertaining, and gorgeously laid out. I especially love her wicked, dark sense of humor.

This article is about the "Followers of the Muffin Man", a generous baker who imbues his baked goods with magic. The layout and colors are attractive and eye-catching. I very much enjoy her colors and font choices.

Cult of Cold by George Sanders tells the story of a group of huntes in a cold land who unsuccessfully track a renegade. George tells the story from the first person, which immediately draws the reader into the story. You can feel the cold and the desperation of the hunters who fear the coming punishment for their failure.

The story then switches to the POV of seers, regulators, warlocks, and finaly the treacherous "Lord of the Land" himself. There's more story in here, but George leaves you wanting more. This is very well done!

I'm slightly cheating by picking this article because I influenced Chris a little bit while he was writing this. I'm a regular on his daily Twitch stream and I definitely incepted the idea of the Iron Stache vs. Captain Nunya into his brain during a stream and/or in comments on one of his other articles.

Chris (I can call him Chris, cause that's my name too!), is endlessly inventive, clever, and has a happily degenerate sense of humor that lines up with my own!

I really enjoy the conceit of his world, a mix of our own world, children's books, and a perverse sense of humor blended together through successive iterations of reality. The fun comes when people jump from one iteration to another to another. This article features a variant of Abraham Lincoln ending another "Civil War" between warring factions of Nunya. Give it a read for fun shenanigans!

This isn't an article. WantedHero tells a story told in one scene mostly through dialogue. It hyper focuses on the prompt to deliver an entire "military conflict resolved through excellent leadership." The titular gnome, Dimitris (love a good cameo), confronts a crusty old gnome general and overwhelms him with a precisely timed and executed attack of kindness and competence!

You expect the story to zig, but it zags instead. You think that he's delivering tired tropes, but instead he reveals something fun, or amusing, or kind. Give it a read and you'll see what I mean.

I aspire to write an article as well thought out and executed as nnie's "Operation War Dove." She delivers information in precise well-thought out bite sized pieces. Her layout perfectly delivers the information as you need it. Her use of World Anvil's Timeline was especially impressive. I immediately cracked open the code editor to see what she was doing and didn't know timelines could be presented like that!

She puts considerable thought into the conflict that she's describing as well. You get information about it in a "news report" and from a short 3-word quote. Amazing and well done.

I was not ready for the level of sardonic cosmic horror from AmélieIS that this article delivered! I was expecting a well-researched article based on Napoleonic era cuisine. I instead received a dark and funny riff on "Cabin in the Woods"!

The meal in question is a human sacrifice that is specially prepared to be fed to a cosmic horror to keep it asleep. It shouldn't be funny, but it is!

I have not delved into this new world too much, but it seems to be full of the same ruthless pragmatism that imbues some of my favorite World Anvil worlds such as Megacorpolis and Becketville.

This lovely "slice of life" article from Dazzlinkat describes a recipe for Lemon Cream passed down from mother to daughter for generations. The article begins with a short in-world vignette that centers the article in the world.

I really enjoyed the sidebar with the secret recipe for Lemon Cream there for all to see! Unfortunately, if you don't have a functioning magic wand, you won't be able to duplicate it in our world! But you might be able to reverse engineer it with our modern scientific methods!!

This simple article by tjtrewin takes on the complicated subject of untangling "the terms of consent in polyamorous and open relationships." The opening article really got me, I was expecting another article about entering the military or becoming an adult. Instead I get a meditation on how to negotiate a difficult subject with your partner, also poetry!

This article gives practical advice that would actually work in anyones real life relationship. Start out simple, mindfully mix in some ingredients, take your time. It drives its point home through the metaphor of a plain meal of bread and dipping sauces.
