Spellcasting Focus
Legendary Requires Attunement
Rank 1: The Whispering Shadow
- Shadow Magic (Enhanced Spells): The user can channel shadow energy into their spells, adding a dark, necrotic edge to their magic. Each spell cast through the Reliquary gains a +1 to damage rolls, and can deal necrotic damage instead of its usual type if the user chooses.
- Demon Insight: The user gains brief insights into forbidden knowledge once per day. The Reliquary provides glimpses into dark secrets or magical knowledge, often related to shadow magic, curses, or entities of the Shadowfell. While powerful, these insights may be incomplete or subtly misleading.
- Phantom Servants: Once per long rest, the user can summon a shadowy phantom servant for up to one hour. This servant can perform simple tasks (scouting, lifting small objects, etc.) but cannot attack or directly interact with other creatures. The servant is vulnerable to bright light, which dispels it instantly.
Rank 2: The Veiled Soul
- Empowered Shadow Magic: Spells cast with the Reliquary’s power now receive a +2 to damage rolls and can inflict necrotic damage as a default type. Additionally, the user gains advantage on any concentration checks for spells cast using the Reliquary.
- Demon’s Eye: The user can call upon Reliquary's knowledge twice per day, gaining insights into hidden information, including the presence of secret doors, invisible creatures, or hidden magic. However, the user may suffer psychic backlash (1d6 psychic damage) after each use, as the dark powers influence pushes further into their mind.
- Dark Pact: The user may enter into a shadow pact with another creature, binding their souls temporarily. This pact allows the user and the target to share knowledge and emotional states, and the user can bolster the creature’s next attack or spell with shadow energy, granting them advantage. The pact lasts 10 minutes but consumes a portion of the user’s vitality, dealing 2d8 necrotic damage to the user.
- Shadow Servants: Once per long rest, the user can summon two shadowy servants instead of one. These shadows are semi-autonomous and can aid in combat with a basic melee attack (1d6 necrotic damage) or help with stealth-based tasks. They remain vulnerable to bright light, which dispels them.
Rank 3: The Demon’s Embrace
- Mastery of Shadow Magic: Spells cast with the Reliquary receive a +3 to damage rolls, and the user can add necrotic damage or psychic damage. They may cast these spells as bonus actions instead of full actions, once per short rest.
- Soul Siphon: The user can siphon life from enemies within 30 feet, draining a portion of their vitality to restore their own health. This ability can be used once per day and deals 4d6 necrotic damage to the target, healing the user for half the damage dealt.
- Demon’s Deception: The user can now project an illusory image of themselves within 60 feet, allowing them to create a decoy for enemies. The illusion appears real, with sounds, movements, and responses mimicking the user. The illusion lasts 10 minutes or until dispelled. This ability can be used once per short rest.
- Shadows of the Fell: Once per day, the user can summon three shadow creatures that fight alongside them. These creatures deal 2d6 necrotic damage with each hit, and they remain until defeated or the encounter ends. These creatures are semi-sentient, carrying out orders given by the user. Their presence spreads fear (Wisdom save DC 15 or frightened for one turn, if a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Shadows Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.)
- Eclipse of the Soul: The user can release a wave of shadow energy in a 30-foot radius, dealing 5d8 necrotic damage to all creatures within range and healing the user for the total damage dealt
The Soulshard Reliquary is an ancient artifact, appearing as a small obsidian box no larger than a human hand, with intricate silver inlays forming runes and symbols of containment. When opened, it emits a deep red glow and a cold, pulsing energy that feels almost like a heartbeat.
