A single-edged, multipurpose cutting tool that is excellent at butchering meat or cutting up plants to clear brush, the machete also has a serrated back for using as a saw where needed. Historically, it has been used in many uprisings, and has a place as the everyman's saber and is a symbol of resistance. During sparring rituals among the Kikongo, a bottle of alcohol is held in one hand and consumed.
