Summer Camp 2024 Pledge & Homework

It's that time of year again and, like clockwork, I'm preparing for Summer Camp again! This will be the fifth Summer Camp that I participate in and I'm really ready for it this year!

For a variety of IRL reasons, my writing output has been low this year and I'm hoping to get my numbers up during Summer Camp.

Homework Week 1: Get Organized

Summer Camp 2024 Pledge

I'm once again pledging to achieve the Diamond Badge, just as I have in previous years. I'm going to try not to burn myself out and keep up a steady pace throughout the month.

Change is in the air

The rest of this week's homework involves reviewing tagging and categories, but I've done that pretty extensively in the past. The real work for me here is looking at my Meta! I recently completed a Level 1-20 D&D campaign in my world that's been running since 2020 and I have another one getting ready to wrap up before one of my players moves away.

Both of those games have resulted in significant change to my world: 2 new moons, old gods with new roles, new gods just being born, a focus on the sun, and lots of development for goblins!

Homework Week 2: Overhaul and Introspection

This week's theme is "Reguge" and it has me thinking about the physical space I'm working in and the mental place that worldbuilding puts me in. I enjoy it so much and I feel like my life has gotten better in so many ways after I found World Anvil and this community. A lot to chew on there.

In my world, there are many refuges sprinkled throughout. The Zone itself could be considered a refuge from the old-fashioned ways "back home." The goblins, Talinos, and refugees from other worlds have definitely found a place to thrive in the KCZ.

The Dragon Empire and the Lost Valley of Sollo were refuges that became traps. The people who went in came through completely transformed. Some beyond recognition.

Accountability

I used to do a lot of writing boudy doubling with Twitch streams, but most of my favorite streamers have ended or transitioned to other things. I'm going to have to figure this one out, hang out in the Summer Camp channel on Discord some more.

I'm actually planning on turning my worldbuilding into a money making venture this year. I'll be bringing people on to help me with that, so hopefully they'll hold me accountable to some real deadlines!

Styling & CSS Upgrades

I consider myself one of the better CSS wizards in the World Anvil space, so I'm pretty good here. I am NOT a designer, so I have some thinking to do here.

Homework Week 3: Believing in Myself

This week's theme is belief and it resonates very strongly with me and my worldbuilding. A lot of the technology in the world is based on souls, which in turn are fueled by belief. The gods live or die based on the belief that others have in them. The factions of the world believe different things and fight for them tooth and nail.

But the Zone itself exists in the space between the beliefs of the Kirinalos. They may believe in different things, but the Zone couldn't exist without their belief in each other.

Inspiration

I continue to be inspired by the Golden Age of popular media that we live in. From comics to TV/movies and the worlds here on World Anvil itself. I'm inspired by things like MCDM's latest 5E books and their new RPG. I feel a fresh wave of inspiration also coming with the new version of D&D arriving this year.

I want to make sure that my world and worldbuilding are ready for the new players and GMs who will be coming into the TTRPG space for the firs time.

Homework Week 4: Decay

The subject of decay is hitting me particularly hard. I'm transitioning at work, two of my multi-year campaigns ended this month, and there's a new edition of D&D coming out this year.

I'm allowing myself to let go of the old and embrace the new, but I'm a little resentful. I was super comfortable and I wasn't quite ready to be thrust out into the world. But isn't that how all great adventures begin?

Optimize Your Environment

I have a writing desk and a work desk in my house, but I'm planning big things this year. I think I'll take myself out of the comfort of my house and worldbuild/work outside of my house to break up my routines.

Time to look for coffee shops, book stores, and other places I can work from around town. (Maybe the beach!)

Review

I'm also in the process of taking my world in a new direction, so I'm looking at my homepage, author page, and social media with an eye on my future plans!

I'm excited to see what you come up with this summer. I also miss hanging out with you on stream, but the new job is going good so far and I hope you understand why I had to stop Twitching.
