Arimoanga

Arimoanga is one of the seven Celestial Gluttons of myth. In recent years, with the rise of the new moons, the legendary Gluttons have proven to be all too real. The Arimoanga takes the shape of an enormous lion, with the behavior a housecat. It sees the sun, moon, and stars as mere playthings that it wishes to bat out of the sky and chew on. To our great relief, we have discovered that the great beast has no true malice in its heart. The Moon Eater Protocols easily distract it until it fades away from our reality.

Instructor of Recruits

When an eclipse begins the Zone Authority enacts the Moon Eater Protocols. Everyone comes out with their bells, fireworks, and best illusion magic. We definitely breath easier when the old Arimoanga shows up! He's the easiest one to distract away from the sun and moon! At heart, he's just a dumb kitty cat that wants to play with the lights in the sky!

Sgt. Kill Flayer

The Arimoanga is an enormous lion spirit, one of the Celestial Gluttons, that is summoned by the innate magic of an eclipse. The great cat is considered the least dangerous and least malicious of all of them. At heart, it's just an enormous beast that wants to play with pretty lights like any other cat.

It usually manifests with eclipses that happen on the day of Heaven, leaping from the Kirinal Pit and climbing into the sky until it's distracted by mortal noisemakers and lights.

Arimoanga's Pride

The feline sophonts of Erathia, (sphinxes, manticores, tabaxi, and lionfolk) consider the Arimoanga to be their ancestor. They collectively refer to themselves as the Arimoanga's Pride. He is heavily associated with Rampol, the god of the sun, and is considered to be one of his heralds. Cat-folk commonly use the iconography of the Lion Glutton in their attire and personal decoration.

Recent Events

Recently, the Arimoanga was summoned without an eclipse beyond the Crystal Sphere of Kirinal. It's boisterous leaping sent stars falling out of the sky. A group of adventurers known as the Pit Patrol Adventuring Company were chosen by the sphinx who was Janus to investigate.

He told them that the so-called "Manticore King", a lion-folk warrior, had summoned the celestial cat. This member of the Suneater Tribe hoped to influence the Arimoanga and turn him towards his own ends. The great sphinx told them that their fellow, Zernon , a lion-folk paladin from a rival tribe could speak to the Glutton cat-to-cat. He sent them out beyond the Divine Gate to confront the Manticore King and the Arimoanga.

On the surface of the Crystal Sphere they discovered a vast coral reef with the kaiju cat romping amongst the bones of a dead god. They challenged the King and his knights mounted on manticores. As predicted by Janus, the Lion was willing to parlay with the lion paladin. The great lion looked down and said, "You have my attention. Now prove yourself."

With the help of his friend, the sorceress Thirteen, Zernon summoned a swarm of cats, delighting the Arimoanga. The great beast faded back to his home in a pocket dimension, taking the Manticore King and his surviving knights with him.

Arimoanga Plot Hooks

Moon Eater Protocols

The party has been put in charge of the Moon Eater Protocols for an upcoming eclipse. The Arimoanga is expected and they must gather resources and make alliances to successfully distract the enormous kitty cat. Someone is trying to disrupt their plans!

Gathering at the Rock of Ancestral Pride

The feline sophonts of Erathia who view the Arimoanga as their ancestor gather at the Rock of Ancestral Pride. They prepare for a once in a century celebration of their celestial ancestor. They seek his blessing and acknowledgement during an upcoming eclipse, but they're cats. They can't agree on anything. It's up to the party to figure it out!

Celestial Cat and Mortal Mouse

For some reason the normal Sun Eater Protocols are not working on the Arimoanga! The party is sent up in a small skyship to serve as a distraction before the lion can eat the sun or moon. Will they survive this cosmic game of cat & mouse?

The Final Fate of the Manticore King

The party is drawn into the pocket dimension domain of the Arimoanga, a vast savannah under an eternal sun. They encounter the true pride of the great lion. They also discover what has become of the Manticore King and his followers.

I kind of am in love with Arimoanga. I love that summoning a bunch of cats made him happy. :D

When I run it in the game, the Arimoanga is equally available for ill or for good! He will cuddle you or kill you depending on his mood because, after all, he is just a cat.

God, I love your world! I don't exactly know what I was expecting when I first heard you utter the phrase "celestial glutton" but I loved how this article subverted my expectations. A giant kitty cat in the sky? Yes!   (This reminds me of a short story I wrote, currently unavailable anywhere, though I will change that, called "The Tiger That Swallowed the World.")

Firstly, I want to read about your own kaiju kitty! Number two, I do love the idea of an enormous cat that can be distracted from destroying the world by the equivalent of a laser pointer!

Not the biggest cat person but I do love this big cat lol. I also love how they are handled when they arrive. Giant gluttonous spirits always a good time ha.

Thank you! It's one of the more fun, less evil gluttons.

I think we should just welcome the giant doom cat. It bears more studying to see if there is a way to give him scritches and rub his belly somewhere between 1 and 3.14 times exactly.

The thing about the Arimoanga is that sometimes he's a ravenous monster and other times he's a cutie pie!
