Arose from a cataclysm involving bad atmosphere and not a lot of light Feudal Society origins so there’s definitely noble houses, etc Definitely a Caste/Social Class System, but from practicality, there is actually nobility based on skill.   Well crafted Environmental Suits with clothes or armor worn over them   Mask Eye lenses actually have been regulated Black Lenses are the standard fare. Colored Lenses are Reserved for nobles, but it’s not unheard of for a noble to switch to black lenses for blending in Silvered lenses are for military and government officials Gold Lenses are reserved for the ruler.   Unlike most cultures where nobles were the only ones with fancy clothes, there’s actually a lot of color allowed, especially since the envirosuits are pretty thin and can easily have stuff worn over them.   A bit on the enigmatic side, preferring to speak in a language whatever people around don’t speak and letting translators with built-in voice changers fill in for them. A past of noble squabbling and intrigue led to a decent need to keep secrets that effectively... well... stuck.   Elven-grade Darkvision: Masked can see pretty damn clearly in the dark, but not extremely well like, say, a Drow Wide selection of possible languages, often preferring any language But common.   Light Weakness: When Masked exposed to bright light without protection (like fairly well shaded lenses), it gets to be a bit much and causes disadvantages on some checks like a drow.   Preferred Class: Bard. Reasoning: The amount of versatility in a Bard, coupled with a great degree of variety based on build lends itself well to a Fairly Mobile Social Class system.     Overall alignment: Lawful, with Neutral leanings. Coming off of a cataclysm of any kind tends to lead to priorities being put in order, and social classes do require a certain degree of faith in the system. They’re neither inherently good or bad in the same way a human can span the whole good/evil spectrum. Noble intrigue and enigmatic tendencies as a perpetual running joke among their people are the big things keeping from being inherently good.   Family: Much like any feudal society, the extended family is pretty well knit together and important. Couple this post-cataclysm tendencies and you tend to get people ready to come together for basically anything. Noble Houses did in fact survive the cataclysm, but there’s a lot less of a difference between a peasant and a noble... granted, there’s still a few benefits, but natural selection definitely worked overtime in the past.   Outside relationships: Most Species are not used to people who hide themselves with masks 24/7 or even have some active distrust. A first Contact scenario with a screwy translator and a species with an inherent policy of not trusting people in masks led to the biggest running joke in their history getting started. (It may be an open secret, but most historians tend to focus on the facts, and that this long-running joke has definitely affected their First Contact protocols)
