In deepest depths — far bellow the darkness where the Drow rule, where the stone is molten and the magma flows — live the few Rokolo. Few folk can claim to have seen a Rokolo, and fewer still can resist friendship with them. Rokolo wander a bleak realm of rock, ore, and lava. Their bodies look as if they come from the molten stone and give them great physical fortitude. Their spirits take advantage of their environment, making them well trained armor smiths. Their hearts are filled with the warmth of their realm, leaving each Rokolo with the responsibility to earn close bonds or die trying.
Driven Competitors
Every day brings another day of work for a Rokolo. Weapons, Armor, and Shelter are in constant demand. A single mistake can define a Rokolo for life.
Rokolo thus place a premium on self-sufficiency and individual skill. They have a compulsion to titles, counting their deeds and tallying their accomplishments to compare to others.
This dedication to competition has a dark side. Rokolo are ferocious business competitors, but above all else they are driven to outdo their past efforts.
Fair Play
For Rokolo, competition exists only when it is supported by a level playing field. Competition measures talent, dedication, and effort. Those factors determine popularity in their home land, not reliance on magic items, or other elements that can tip the balance one way or the other. Rokolo happily rely on such benefits, but they are careful to remember that such an advantage can always be lost.
This pride manifests most strongly when Rokolo interact with other folk. The relationship between peasants and nobles strongly matter to Rokolo. If a king lacks the intelligence or leadership to lead, then clearly the most talented person in the kingdom should take his place.
Survival of the Fittest
Rokolo have little pity for adults who can’t take care of themselves, though a sick or injured individual is treated, as a result of the Rokolo concept of fair play.
A permanently injured Rokolo is still expected to pull his or her own weight.
