3 | A meteorite has just landed on the outskirts of town. The townsfolk flock to it, some believing it to be a sign of the end times, others thinking it may be a valuable gift from the heavens. |
4 | There's been a murder! The townsfolk are investigating it, but would appreciate a little help from an outside source. |
5 | Unseasonably heavy rain has caused flooding from a nearby river. The townspeople are doing their best to minimise damage but the party may be able to help in some way. |
6 | A series of high-value thefts have caused shopkeepers to become wary of outsiders, and watch the party with an unwavering glare. |
7 | Doomsayers proselytise to townsfolk in the square, recruiting members for their bizarre cult. Are they harmless, or is something more sinister afoot? |
8 | Hooded figures silently move about the town. The locals do not know where they came from, nor what they are doing exactly, but it is making everyone feel uneasy. |
9 | A famous gambler has set up a table in the local inn, inviting one and all to try their hand at his games of chance. Is he simply lucky, or is he a swindler? Either way, he has a charismatic allure... |
10 | A long-coated man sells enigmatic puzzle boxes near the town gates. He claims that they contain some form of prize, but opening them seems like an extraordinarily challenging ordeal. |
11 | The streets are littered with the homeless and desperate, who all beg the party for help in these troubled times. They blame new and harsher taxes that came out of the blue one day. |
12 | A section of the housing district has been quarantined by a team of physicians who claim to be containing a potential plague outbreak. They won't let anyone in or out, nor explain themselves in detail when questioned. |
13 | There is a town debate over an important issue, and they are in deadlock. An outside opinion could easily sway public opinion one way or the other, but would it be right to interfere? |
14 | An execution is soon taking place in the public square. The accused claims to have been framed, and sure enough the evidence doesn't seem to quite add up... |
15 | The party is informed by the guards that an escaped convict is thought to be hiding somewhere in town, and to therefore avoid the shadows. |
16 | Crops have failed and livestock have died. Food is scarce, and the inn serves only meagre meals. Local farmers could do with some help to identity the source of the problem. |
17 | Religious zealots swarm the streets, knocking on doors in their search for heresy. They don't seem interested in the party, as if they are looking for someone or something in particular. |
18 | A fire has swept a large portion of the town, forcing the affected townsfolk to live in the streets and the inn whilst repairs take place. Some shops may have been affected too. |
19 | The travelling fayre is in town! Various attractions have been set up for the townsfolk to try their hand at, whilst clowns, mimes and other variety acts perform for them. A band plays music to keep the atmosphere merry. |
20 | It's festival day! Revellers make merry in the streets, and wine flows freely. The town square is decorated and traditional dancers perform for the crowds. |
21 | Annual Hunting/Fishing contest & feast! The town is preparing for a large feast tonight! There's a small cash prize for whoever brings in the biggest catch by sundown! Visitors are welcome to take part in both the contest and feast, as long as they contribute something to eat! |
22 | A wealthy but eccentric local has set up a scavenger hunt, offering gold to whoever can gather all the items from around town! Some townsfolk are taking part for the fun of it, but a few are taking it too seriously and perhaps too far. |
23 | Two local aristocrats have had a dispute, and a duel has been called for! One or both of the aristocrats is a coward, and will pay well for a stand-in to take his place. On the sidelines, a local bookie is surreptitiously taking bets on how the issue will resolve. |
24 | Nobody's heard from the old man who lives alone in the decrepit manor outside of town for some time. There have long been rumors that the manor is haunted, and the town drunk claims he saw strange lights and heard horrible noises coming from it. The rumors have the town buzzing, but nobody's worked up the courage to check it out. |
25 | An old feud between two families has flared up again, and now everybody in town is taking sides! Associating with people from one side will alienate people on the other. |
26 | The party shows up just before a massive bar brawl breaks out. The meager town guard are trying to get things under control, but things are quickly getting out of hand. |
27 | Everyone in town is desperately afraid of anything with wings. They've already killed all the geese, ducks, and chickens, and any birds that fly by are killed on sight. Is it a case of mass hysteria, or is something else going on? |
