You summon an elemental Mephit of challenge rating 1/4 or lower (mud, smoke, steam). The summoned Mephit does not have the summon variant trait. On each of your turns you can use a Bonus Action to command any creature you summoned with this spell if the creature is within 60 feet of you. If you control multiple creatures, you can command any or all of them at the same, issuing the same command to each one. You decide what action the creature will take and where it will move on its next turm, or you can issue a general command such as follow me or guard this room. If you issue no commands the creature only attacks to defend itself against hostile enemies.   The elemental Mephit is under your control for 24 hours, after which is stops obeying any command given. To maintain control of the Mephit for another 24 hours, you must cast this spell on the creature again before the current 24-hour period ends. This use of the spell reasserts control rather than summoning a new one.
At higher levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you summon or reassert control over one additional Mephit for each spell slot above 3rd level. You must pay additional material cost equal to the total number of Mephit summoned.
