The Traveler's Guide to Aellorah

Rite of Possession

9-level Necromancy

Ritual - does not require spell slot, takes 10 minutes longer
Casting Time: 1 hour
Range/Area: Self
Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material
Materials: a filled soulstone, a vial of your blood, a small personal object belonging to the target creature
Duration: 24 hours
Attack/Save: Wisdom

You attempt to possess someone you are familiar using one of your bound spirits. The ritual requires a small object belonging to the target creature, and you must be familiar enough with them to know their full name and appearance. Upon completion of the ritual, your spirit travels through the Ethereal plane to the target and attempts to possess them. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the target is possessed and control of the target is given to you. You can issue mental commands to control the target's actions. On a successful save, the target is unaffected, but is aware that a spirit has assaulted them.

Once you take control of a target, you can control their actions completely. However, if you attempt to command them to take an action that would be harmful to them, they can repeat the saving throw, ending the possession on a success. Once possessed, the target can repeat the saving throw to end the possession once every hour. The spirit can only maintain the possession for up to 24 hours. If a spirit is exorcised from the target by a Cleric using an ability such as Turn Undead, it is ejected from the target's body and returns to its Soulstone, with twice the fade penalty.

This spell can only be cast as a ritual.
