Curse of Altered Preferences
5-level Enchantment
Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 30ft
Components: Verbal, Somatic
Duration: Concentration, Up to 1 minute
Attack/Save: WIS Save
You attempt to reshape another creature's preferences through a passive curse upon them. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw equal to your spell save DC. On a success, the target will know someone in the vicinity tried to alter their preferences, and are immune to the effects of this spell for 24 hours. On a failure, the target will be passive for the duration of the spell, during which the spellcaster may specify which of their preferences are altered and in what way.
The creature will rationalize away any disjunction between their past thoughts and actions and their new preferences, though if they have knolwedge of being under this curse in the past, they can repeat the Wisdom saving throw once every 24 hours, ending the curse upon a successful save. Therefore, using this spell on creatures who have experienced it previously is less likely to succeed, unless used in tandum with a Modify Memory spell. If they have knowledge of being under this spell in the past, and the same preferences were altered, they can repeat this Wisdom saving throw once every 6 hours, ending the curse upon a successful save.
When cast at the default 5th level, you can alter the target's personal likes and dislikes (tastes), such as preferences for types of actions, thoughts, or objects. A Remove Curse or Greater Restoration spell cast on the target may restore the target's original preferences.
At higher levels: If you cast this spell using a 6th level spell slot or higher, you can alter the target's interpersonal likes/dislikes/opinions (e.g., towards people or groups, though it remains their *personal* opinion) (6th level), the target's broader prescriptions (e.g., attitutdes toward individuals or groups that *can* be advocated for on a larger scale) (7th level), the target's deeply held convictions and beliefs (8th level), and the target's underlying values (including a single adjascent adjustment of their alignment) (9th level).
