Hares

Hares are long-limbed folk who embody the spirit of freedom and travel. They accomplish tasks quickly, leaving plenty of time for relaxation and leisure. While one may presume they are slackers, they are often among the hardest workers in the realm. They can be found in most areas across the realm, they enjoy traveling across open fields and barreling through the tall grasses. They make their homes in elaborate burrows called Warrens where they decorate with hand made items and fill with the sound of music.

Cottontail Rabbits are medium sized creatures, they stand 4 to 5 paws high with slender, sinewy limbs and long pointy ears and a cotton ball tail. They are one to two paws taller than an average mouse. Rabbit's fur is grayish brown with a white belly side. The Appalachian cottontail rabbit has black rims around its easier. They weigh between 3 and 6 pounds fully grown. Males and females have the same fur coloration though females are usually heavier.   Rabbits fur is very soft and is long. Thier fur changes color with the seasons, becoming darker in the winter. Male Rabbits are known for their longer facial hair and greater number of whiskers than females.   Long in the Ear Rabbits live an average of 3 years in the wild though the oldest rabbit in the realm was said to have lived twice that and over. Rabbits born in the realm live among their clan in their underground warrens for the first year of their life, after that they prefer to go off on their own and live in solidarity till they find a mate and establish a warren of their own. Female rabbits can have between 4 and 5 litters in a year, each with 3 to 5 young. Rabbits with enough food can double their family size in less than a year.   Rabbits are very slow to anger, they prefer to live in harmony and peace with all creatures in the realm. They are often found with smiles on their faces and a song in their hearts. Because of this, Rabbits are natural musicians. Clans often come together for entire band performances that closely resemble an orchestra. Rabbits are natural diplomats and envoys, their speed makes them trustworthy messengers. When a rabbit is threatened they retaliate with spears, and longswords but their kick is almost as deadly as steel.   Fantastic Warrens Rabbits dig their warrens barely a few paws beneath the surface and usually along the sides of hills on underneath trees. What the warren lacks in depth it makes up for with its branching narrow tunnels. A rabbit warren can be home to more than one familial unit, many warrens can converge and the resulting home is akin to an underground fortress though it is nowhere near as elaborate as mole tunnels. The largest rabbit warren is still the Jameson warren located near House Pine.
