Sanguana

Physical Description

Sanguana are a remarkable aquatic race, resembling colossal catfish that have adapted to life both underwater and on land. They are notably larger than most humanoid races, with an average height of 10 to 12 feet when fully grown. Sanguana are characterized by their massive round stomachs, which are a source of pride and distinction within their society. Their bodies are sleek, covered in glistening scales that come in a variety of vibrant colors, ranging from deep blues and greens to striking shades of red and orange. Their eyes are large and expressive, usually a shade of gold or amber, allowing them to see well in both murky waters and dimly lit environments.

CULTURE AND SOCIETY

The Sanguana are a deeply communal and spiritual race, often living in close-knit, extended family groups known as "pods." They value harmony and cooperation and are renowned for their peaceful nature. Their society is centered around water, and they build intricate underwater settlements with luminescent flora and bioluminescent creatures to light their way. Sanguana are known for their exquisite craftsmanship, creating intricate jewelry and tools from the treasures they collect from the depths.

DEVOUR

As a standard action that provokes Attacks of Oppurtunity, a Giant Catfish can attempt to Devour an adjacent target. There are several conditions that must be met for a Giant Catfish to be able to Devour a target.
  • The target must be of Medium size or smaller
  • The Giant Catfish may not have more than one creature Devoured at a time
  • They may only Devour a target if they are currently grappling OR they have damaged the target with the Snaggletooth bite attack OR the Giant Catfish is acting in a surprise round OR the target is willing OR the target is helpless.
  • Make opposed Strength (Athletics) checks. The target may use Dexterity (Acrobatics) if they wish. If the Giant Catfish does not succeed, their opponent may end the grapple if they are currently in one. If the Giant Catfish succeeds, the opponent has been Devoured.
While Devoured, the target occupies the same space as the Giant Catfish, is restrained, and line of sight to and from the target is blocked. The speed of the Giant Catfish is reduced to 15 feet if the target is Medium, or 20 feet if the target is small. The swim speed is unchanged. A willing target counts as Small for this purpose. The Giant Catfish may not jump or use the Dash action with a devoured target.   With a creature Devoured, you can use the Attack action to make a special attack, a Digestion. If you're able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this replaces one of them. Digestion deals 1d4+STR bludgeoning damage.   The Giant Catfish can spit out a target with no action required, leaving them prone in an adjacent space. A willing target can be spat 10 feet and is not prone. The target can use it's action to escape as an opposed Strength (Athletics) checks, making the check with Disadvantage if they have been hit and dealt damage by Digestion this round.
