Nykterion

The Nykterion were raised from a handful of interrelated subspecies of bat to full sentience by the deity of the moon, Mattrang. Their original dwelling places were, like their ancestors, the caves and deep crevasses in the Mountains of Night, which divides the continent of Ymfang from north to south, with two thirds of the continent to the west and one third to the east. While indebted to Mattrang as the source of their consciousness, upon venturing beyond their subterranean birthplaces, enclaves of Nykterion began to build homes in the many tall trees of the Y'lath forest. Here, they made contact with the Mo'a. Due to this faction's affinity with trees, upon contact with humans, many of these forest-dwelling bat creatures converted to the worship of Dryanda, the deity of all flora. These two factions make up the bulk of the Nykterion population, though as of the current era, some pockets of divergent societies exist, with devotion to each of the elemental deities as well as to the God of All Knowledge.
ability score increase:
age: Mature around 16 years old; Average lifespan of 80 years
alignment: N/A
Size: Medium
speed: 30 Ft.
Languages: Himani; Nyktarion
Nykterion lost their ability to fly when they were raised up by Mattrang--their body weight precluded them from their former primary means of travel. To compensate, Mattrang granted them longer legs and adapted their arms for climbing instead. Most individuals of the species grow to approximately seven feet in height with a tough, if lanky build. Male and female Nykterion are more or less similar in size, with female Nykterion being slightly larger on an average. As such, roles related to labor and warfare are generally equally distrubuted between the sexes, with domestic responsibilities being shared. Their bodies are mostly covered with a soft, straight fur (originally brown, black, or grey, depending on the subspecies, though because they are not fully distinct species, interbreeding has rendered any clear distinction in fur color fairly rare).
