Where I’m From Poem
Inspired by George Ella Lyon
Written by Molly Sroges
I am from Shabbat candles
From Armstreet and Dare Fashion
I am from cat hair
Black, everywhere
I from Japanese magnolias
That I bless every Tu B’Shvat
I am from feral books and fabric
From The Circle of Magic and Peter Pan
I’m from terrible jokes and bluegrass music
From just clear a path through the mess
And never give an even number of flowers
I’m from a never ending search for God
I’m from Albuquerque and Lithuania
Boiled crawfish and fried bread
From Christmas stockings
To Chanukah luminarias
My dresser has a drawer full of journals
With untold stories and last weeks RPG notes
I am from those moments
Playing pretend on a Saturday night
