Though often depicted as craven, opportunistic scavengers, there is a reason why the hyena is the animal harbinger for the Daughter of Death. With a bite force double their famous foes, the lions, and a strong pack hunting style, hyenas are rightly feared by all who live on the fringes of society. They are tough, hardy creatures and their association with gnolls makes them all the more dangerous.
Hyenas prefer to hunt at night in savannah, grassland, scrubland, hills and desert environments. They tend to hunt in packs called cackles and are led by the strongest females in their group.
