Magical Amplifier

Wondrous Item

Very Rare

Amplification: As an action, the user can expend one spell slot to charge the amplifier and roll 1d6. The user then regains one spell slot of a level equal to the number rolled. Using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher adds +1 to the d6 result for each spell slot level above 1st.
Overload: If the rolled spell slot level is higher than 9th, the amplifier explodes, dealing force damage equal to the rolled number to the user and producing a random effect from the Wild Magic Surge table. This destroys the amplifier.

A creature can use the magical amplifier a number of times equal to its proficiency bonus each day.

The creation of a cunning wizard, this small grey cylinder is a clever modification of a standard arcane battery. When it is charged by channeling magic into it, its intricate inner workings cycle and amplify the magical energy, allowing it to potentially output more energy than was put in, which can then be harvested by the user to power their spells.

A bright yellow warning is printed on the side: "DO NOT OVERCHARGE!"
