Amulet of Water Breathing, cursed

Wondrous Item

Rare Abjuration

While wearing this amulet, you can breathe underwater for up to 1 hour at a time. After that hour, you can still hold your breath for the normal amount of time determined by your Constitution modifier. After using this property, you can't use it again until the amulet has been out of water for an uninterrupted period of at least 10 minutes.
Curse: Once this amulet touches water while being worn, it is bound to the wearer. If you are bound to the amulet, it is exceedingly difficult to remove. Removing it requires a DC 18 Strength (Athletics) check. On a success, the chain is shattered, the ornate sapphire pendant turns to dust, and the wearer's lungs are spontaneously filled with water. The wearer must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the wearer takes 20 (3d12) cold damage and immediately starts suffocating. On a success, the wearer takes half damage and doesn't suffocate. While the wearer is suffocating, it must spend its turn repeating the saving throw to attempt to eject the water from its lungs. These repeated saving throws are done at disadvantage if unconscious and can be assisted with the help action.
