Cold Iron is smelted without bringing it to a heat that would remove all of the character of the metal. This preserves the delicate forging work done by the terra firma itself in creating this ore. Particularly to Fey creatures this reality of fire and pressure is repugnant. Cold Iron is particularly effective against them.
