Variant Warlock Features

The Cursed Blade of Hadar

Replaces Pact Weapon   You can use your action to create the legendary weapon Shadowfang, the Cursed Blade of Hadar in your empty hand. You can choose the form that this melee weapon takes each time you create it. You are proficient with it while you wield it.

Your pact weapon disappears if it is more than 5 feet away from you for 1 minute or more and if you die Shadowfang will consume you body and soul taking you to Hadar.
You can then dismiss the weapon, shunting it into an extradimensional space, and it appears whenever you create your pact weapon thereafter. The weapon appears at your feet if it is in the extradimensional space when the bond breaks.   Starry Shift
Melee: When you take the Attack action in melee, Shadowfang momentarily shifts into a larger, greatsword form, granting you +1 to damage rolls. Ranged: As a bonus action, you can transform Shadowfang into a starry longbow, using your Charisma for attack and damage rolls. The ranged attack deals radiant damage, and its range is 150/600 ft.   Eclipse Edge
Melee: Shadowfang's blade becomes surrounded by a dark aura. Once per turn, when you hit with a melee attack, you can reduce the target's speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.
Ranged: As a bonus action, transform Shadowfang into a shadowy thrown dagger with a range of 30/60 ft. When thrown, the dagger returns to your hand immediately after the attack.   Galactic Grasp
Melee: As a reaction to being attacked, you can manifest chains of starry energy, imposing disadvantage on the attacker's roll.
Ranged: Shadowfang can be transformed into a whip made of cosmic energy with a 15-foot reach. When you hit a creature with this whip, you can pull the creature up to 10 feet closer to you.   Note on Transmutation: Shadowfang can shift its form based on the chosen feature's ranged or melee option, but it retains its primary form as a longsword when not in use for these attacks.

Herald of Hadar

At 1st level, you acquire the training necessary to effectively arm yourself for battle. You gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons.   The influence of your patron also allows you to mystically channel your will through a particular weapon. When you attack with Shadowfang, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls.
Level 4 Boon: Eldritch Whisper - The wielder gains the ability to cast Detect Magic at will, without expending a spell slot. Drawback: Whispers of Hadar - The wielder starts hearing unsettling whispers, imposing disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing.   Level 6 Boon: Dark Resilience - The wielder gains resistance to necrotic damage. Drawback: Hadar's Hunger - The wielder experiences an insatiable hunger, requiring twice the normal amount of food to sustain themselves.   Level 8 Boon: Shroud of Shadows - Once per day, the wielder can become invisible for up to 10 minutes, as per the Invisibility spell. Drawback: Eldritch Addiction - The wielder feels a compulsive need to stay in darkness or dim light, suffering disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks in bright light.   Level 10 Boon: Shadow Strike - Once per day, the wielder can add 2d6 necrotic damage to a successful attack. Drawback: Isolation of the Dark - The wielder begins to feel detached from others, incurring disadvantage on Charisma checks when interacting with non-warlocks or non-evil characters.   Level 12 Boon: Veil of Darkness - The wielder can cast Darkness once per day without using a spell slot. Drawback: Hadar's Claim - The wielder's skin becomes pale and cold, giving them vulnerability to radiant damage.   Level 14 Boon: Grasp of Hadar - The wielder gains the ability to pull creatures up to 10 feet closer to them when they hit with an Eldritch Blast. Drawback: Eldritch Insomnia - The wielder suffers from frequent nightmares, preventing them from gaining the benefits of a long rest unless they succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw.   Level 16 Boon: Shadow Step - The wielder can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space they can see, as long as it is in dim light or darkness, once per short or long rest. Drawback: Curse of Silence - The wielder loses their ability to speak during daylight hours.   Level 18 Boon: Hadar's Embrace - The wielder can, once per long rest, summon a Shadow Demon (as per the Monster Manual) to aid them for up to 1 hour. Drawback: Loss of Self - The wielder's personality begins to blend with the consciousness of the blade, requiring a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw to resist making decisions in line with the blade's evil alignment.   Level 20 Boon: Ultimate Power of Hadar - Attack and damage bonuses increase to +3, and the wielder can cast Arms of Hadar at 5th level once per day without expending a spell slot. Drawback: Complete Binding - The wielder's soul becomes bound to the blade. If the wielder dies, their soul is consumed by Shadowfang, and they cannot be resurrected by any means short of a Wish spell.
