A creature that steps into the grid must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or stop moving for a moment and take 1d4 piercing damage. Until the creature breaks free, its movement is limited by the range of the grid.
The trap is affixed by a heavy chain to an immobile object, such as a tree or a spike driven into the ground. A creature can use its action to make a DC 13 Strength check, freeing itself or another creature within its reach on a success. Each failed check deals 1 point of piercing damage to the trapped creature.

This trap represents a small portable device, made of sturdy Veridian alloy, which when activated creates a grid of cryogenic energy up to a 5-foot diameter. When a creature steps into or over the grid, the energy activates and the temperature of the area rapidly decreases, effectively freezing and trapping the creature within the icy grip of the grid.
