Zerk's Lamentations 1:1

It's like a moment in time. Zerk remembers that... it's the last joyful night before our descent into Avernus. Our last night of good times. Our last night of love life and fellowship. It seems like forever ago now. If we are never to resurface... I pray that is how the world remembers the Silver Shields.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:2

The loss of a friend is saddened by the hole left in our hearts. Confusion strikes us as equally as wonder. The Silver Shields must protect their hearts and minds...for fear of losing them. Even though things happen for reasons...we still plunge into fire and darkness.

We must prevail...or there is no hope.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:3

Morale is a funny thing...it can stoke the heart or dull the hope. I fear I am on the losing end of a battle that could last a thousand generations....yet age me not a day. I pray to endure with my fellow shields...and shoulder their burdens with my heart.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:4

Tragedy...confusion...loss.

My heart hurts today. As we mourn the passing of Flynn Saranus...we are conflicted. He was trusted yet misguided. Revered yet reviled. How do we honour his memory...only time will tell. We will miss you my friend. May your soul drift ever upward to the silver spires of heaven. Be at peace...Your watch has ended.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:5

A grief stricken leonin...a twice born child...a shattered paladin...a depressed alchemist....have all been hit hard by this place. Akari and I are the only ones that seem to be able to cope. But for how long? I am fortunate enough to have the love of a healer as motivation.

If our gods can hear us...we need help.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:6

An entire town descending into oblivion. A deviled contract that needs breaking. Are we strong enough to withstand the infinite hordes of Avernus? Are we intelligent enough to get through this landscape without making deals with devil's?

Do we have the constitution.....the depth of faith to take this as far as it's needed?

Zerk's Lamentations 1:7

A new ally. A gnome wizard. Can he be trusted? Flew some winged contraptions down to the Wastelands.

The Hordes!

My God the Hordes!!!

The sheer numbers of devil's and demons is uncountable. Never in my life have I seen such unyielding masses.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:8

Descent...we are being followed...no...stalked.

Spotted by a giant winged scale beast. We attempt to outrun but can't. The shields manage to land and so does our nemisis.

Moregauth!

We fight a valiant battle....and win...this time.

The heat down on the surface of Avernus is crippling.

I hope we can survive.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:9

Lost in the Wastelands guided by a divine hollyphant.

We find our way to a place called Fort knucklebone.

We were invited in. Patchwork demons littered this place. The matron hag of this place extracts Lulu's memories and sends us on our way.

I can't help but think what this demon hag got out of it...

Anyway... it's on to mount wherever.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:10

It's hot. We are traveling in a mechanical contraption that runs on souls. Disgusting! In the Wastelands of Avernus anything can happen. We are chased by a much larger and faster vehicle. We avoid lava pools and boulders just to get hit by some ballista from our stalkers.

We manage to do enough damage to them and they break down. Bunch of psychos down here.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:11

Chaos...discord...strife. These are just some of the problems that exist in Avernus. We have a copy of the book of Vile Deeds. This damn thing damn near ripped us apart just by existing. The energy emitting from this evil tome threatens the very fabric of our brotherhood.

After a huge argument... I fear Thaddeus and I are back to square one. The book stays in the bag for now...but for how long?

Will it's effects linger? Will this new guy survive long enough to become one of us?

Time will tell.

Zerk's Lamentations 1:12

A hill or mountain...we trek to the peak only to find a vampire on a stake. Usually the stake kills the bloodsuckers...but not him. He had other creatures feeding him...gross!

The group discusses the man's Fate. Interrogate him even. They grant him mercy and let him down.

Another mistake in a long line of mistakes we've been making. Then the fight begins.
