Salaman are accustomed to hunting in darkness, relying more on hearing than sight. You have blindsense (echolocation) to a range of 60 feet and you have advantage on hearing Perception checks.   When underwater, your echolocation instead has a range of 240 ft, but you have disadvantage on any attack rolls relying on it.   When on dry land, you cannot perceive anything that's underwaater in this manner. While submerged in water, you cannot peceive anything above its surface in this manner and you cannot use this sense at all while deafened.   Nocturnal Eyes:
Your eyesight is worse than any other race. You see in bright light as in dim light and in dim light as in darkness. Additionally, your eyes are sensitive to light. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of the attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.   Short Sleeper:
As Salaman are naturally nocturnal and only require four hours of sleep, they are sought out as guards, nightwatchmen and for other such tasks.
