Sword of Saints

Weapon Magical, Sentient, Versatile Legendary (this item requires attunement) [Evocation]

The Sword of Saints is a sentient lawful good +4 Longsword (Intelligence 15, Wisdom 15, Charisma 20) that acts on its own initiative (+1 bonus, loosing initiative ties) and has normal sight and hearing out to a range of 120 feet and truesight out to a range of 15 feet. It communicates telepathically in an ethereal, genderless voice to the wielder.
The sword's purpose was to protect those faithful to Korelia, aiding them in smiting would-be tresspassers on the prime material plane and contains the soul of a Solar crippled by battle but sworn to protect the wielder. The sword has the following additional properties:

  • A creature of Lawful Good alignment can attune to the weapon in 1 minute.
  • Attacks with this weapon have advantage against Fiends and Undead.
  • A Paladin or Cleric wielding this sword cannot be disarmed while awake. Additionally, they may use it as a focus for their spells (+4 bonus to attack).
  • On a critical hit, the sword deals a bonus 3d8 Radiant damage and the target must make a DC 20 Charisma saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. Fiends and Undead have disadvantage on this save.
  • Innate Spellcasting. The Sword of Saints' spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 20). It can innately cast the following spells with no material components:
At Will: Detect Evil And Good, Guidance, Spare the Dying
3/day: Cure Wounds (5th Level, wielder only), Revivify (wielder only)
1/day: Teleport (self only), True Resurrection
Appearance: The blade is of Elven make, a fine filligree of Celestial runes inlaid the entirety of the way down the sword until it meets the crest of the gold-plated crossguard carved to resemble a pair of outstretched wings, a gleaming ruby set in silver at both sides of where the blade and handguard meet. The handle is bound in treated golden dragon hide and a third ruby is mounted in to the pommel. The runes can be roughly translated to a pact between mortalkind and a servant of Korelia sent to aid in a time of need.
Personality: The Solar that gives the blade it's power is sworn by both honor and duty to protect the borders between the Inner and Outer planes at any cost. It loathes the beings of the lower planes and will not hesitate to encourage an attack against fiends or undead. Clerics and Paladins have managed to summon the blade to their side in times of dire need but the weapon's tenacity to root out evil almost guarantees it never stays long, often returning to its resting place within Saint's Rest and waiting for the next righteous soul to claim it.
