Wood Elves

Also called copper elves and often confused with wild elves, wood elves were a populous subrace that lived simply in the forests.Wood elves were easily identifiable by their coppery skin and green, brown, or hazel eyes. Wood elven hair was usually black or brown, although hues such as blond or copper red were also found. Accustomed to a harsh, naturalistic lifestyle, wood elves loved to wear leather armor, even when they were not under immediate threat. Wood elves were roughly identical to other elves in height and build, with males larger than females.
As a people, wood elves were largely seen as calm and level-headed. Arousing strong emotions in wood elves was not something that was easily done, although many did have a strong aversion for large cities due to a lack of the natural ways.
Physical Characteristics
Wood elves have darker skin than other elven sub races, in a range of light brown to dark brown. An average male is 5'8" (173 cm) in height and weighs 150 lbs (68 kg), while an average female is 5'3" (160 cm) and 130 lbs (60 kg). Their hair can be anything from black to light brown, and it grays and turns to white with old age. They prefer to wear as little clothing as possible and choose instead to adorn themselves with other decorations like tattoos, feathers or body paint. They can make and wear complicated and intricate bead work. Males are usually larger than females, sometimes by as much as five inches or twenty pounds, but wood elves differ little in size from other elves.
Wood elves, like other elves, are nimble and agile in body, but they are commonly thought of as less intelligent than their elven brethren, due in part to their aversion to civilization.
Psychology
As a people, wood elves were largely seen as calm and level-headed. Arousing strong emotions in wood elves was not something that was easily done, although many did have a strong aversion for large cities. To wood elves, the trappings of civilization, including the mightiest of fortresses or tallest walls, were transient and impermanent things that would eventually be overcome by the long processes of nature. To many, this attitude seemed condescending, weakening the bonds between wood elves and other races. Additionally, wood elves could sometimes seem off-putting compared to other , with a gruff manner that made them less charismatic, despite their avowed compassion and humility.
Wood elven romantic and sexual relationships were often polyamorous in nature, members of the race freely engaging or ceasing relations with new partners. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness were as a result viewed by the race as reasons for teasing or mockery. As a result of these perspectives on love, high elves often believed that any relationships engaged with wood elves would be destined to fail from the start.
Culture
Although a proud people, wood elves felt that compassion was a greater virtue than strength and wood elven realms were less concerned with expansion than they were with maintaining amiable relations with their neighbors. Wood elves were not nomadic, however, as was common amongst the wild elves and instead they were organized into scattered, carefully concealed villages united under a gerontocratic hierarchy composed of village councils consisting of the most distinguished families' eldest members. These councils were often advised by local druids, whose influence played no small part in wood elven politics and who frequently served as the webbing that bound any number of villages together as one realm. All Wood Elf councils elect one member to sit on the greater council of The Sacred Oak which converges quarterly.
Compared with other Elves, wood elves had a notable disinterest in the arcane arts. To a wood elf, the wizard's spells were little different from the mason's castle walls or the tiller's plow—a means of controlling the natural world, which was contrary to the common ethic of living in harmony with nature rather than trying to dominate it that so many wood elves espoused. As such, wood elven adventurers were more likely to take on careers that did not require the use of arcane magic. In particular, many were drawn to the path of the fighter, the ranger, or the rogue, relying on their natural-born skill to overcome obstacles. Compared with other Elves very few wood elves went on to become spellsingers or bladesingers many being shunned as a result causing defectors to the cities, Nomadic Lifestyle of a Wanderer or the tribes of Wild Elves. The one major exception to the wood elven taboo on arcane magic was the arcane archers, who counted among their number several wood elves. Other wood elves from more remote areas were drawn to the ways of the barbarian while many religious wood elves became druids with clerics often seen in much the same light as wizards.

Other wood elves from more remote areas were drawn to the ways of the barbarian while many religious wood elves became druids with clerics often seen in much the same light as wizards.
Art and Leisure
Wood elves commonly felt that they were in harmony with their natural surroundings and an examination of their art helped to justify this belief. While wood elves did not wander like wild animals as the wild elves did, wood elves did their best to have a minimal impact on their natural surroundings, a fact reflected in their architecture. Frequently, wood elven homes were made of natural fieldstone or carefully furnished wood, but on occasion wood elves were known to do without even these creature comforts, living in the limbs of mighty trees or sheltered caves, rejecting furniture or any possessions they couldn't carry with them. So close did wood elven villages resemble their surroundings that humans were occasionally known to wander through one without even noticing.
In keeping with their naturalistic inclination, wood elves were not particularly fine metalworkers and had no interest in developing any such skills. However, wood elves were among some of the world's finest carpenters and stoneworkers, masters in the crafting of bows and arrows as well as in leather tanning. Wood elves even developed a number of specialized arrows, including those that flew further than usual as well as some that were used as signal devices. So carefully guarded were wood elven crafting secrets that even experienced fletchers from other races had difficulty emulating wood elven designs. Wood elven leather armor also often doubled as camouflage, disguising a wood elven hunter from potential enemies. Compared with wild elven designs, wood elven crafting often looked surprisingly elegant, although they were often made of the same materials and used similar methods, reflecting some of the differences between the two elven subraces.[3]
While wood elves felt it better to have a minimal impact on their surroundings, the race had no particular aversion to meat-eating and were passionate hunters. Many hours of a typical wood elf's life were spent on the hunt, which was both a practical activity and a pleasurable one. Most of the time that wood elves were not hunting they were enjoying themselves at ease within the highest branches of their forest homes. Wood elves did not, however, commonly keep pets, but instead formed bonds with local wildlife in a manner similar to those of a ranger. Wood elves were particularly fond of mountain lions, pumas, and leopards
Magic and religion
Wood elves were generally uncomfortable with most forms of magic, viewing wizards and other arcane spellcasters with no small amount of distrust. Clerics and other divine spellcasters fared little better in wood elven eyes, who saw their prayers as cute. However, wood elves were largely at ease with the ways of the primal magic used by druids, barbarians, shamans, and wardens, which they felt was the truest expression of supernatural power—or rather, a reflection of nature itself, used to protect the wilderness. However, wood elves were not completely adverse to arcane magic and wood elven bards, sorcerers, and wizards were far from unknown however many do not belong to wood elf tribes or villages as they live in exile.
Wild elves have an approach to spirituality that is unusual among the other Elves, even in comparison with the drow. Of all the Gods of the Pantheon, the wild elves feel closest to Rillifane, God of the Wilds, as well as Mirage'els whose Hedonistic views appeal to the Wood Elves.
Relations with other races
Although a proud people themselves, wood elves often felt that their Elven kindred, such as the Moon Elves too often put on an air of superiority and xenophobia that was ultimately detrimental. Wood elves looked to the examples of the ancient elven empires and, seeing failure after failure, felt that their aim should be compassion and humility, rather than political or military strength. Unlike many of their kin, wood elves felt that their fates were inextricably tied to those of The Continent's other races and they made no effort to pull away or isolate themselves. Ironically, so reclusive were wood elven settlements that, despite their open nature, wood elves rarely actually saw people from outside their race, due to their dwellings being deep in the forest like Wild Elves.
Of all the humanoid races of Faerûn, the ones most familiar with the wood elves were the humans and dwarves native to the North, who often lived within the vicinity of the fey. Still, few humans or dwarves had ever actually met a wood elf and when they did it was often largely by chance. However, when meetings did occur, they were largely friendly and, like the moon elves, wood elves saw themselves as allies and teachers of humanity, rather than as rivals. Wood elves also had a long tradition of friendship with the Dwarves of North Mountain who live a primitive and modest life.
Gnomes and halflings were less frequent guests among the wood elves, but they were generally seen favorably. Conversely, wood elves, like most Tel-quessir, had a strong contempt for orcs, as well as for Infernal races like the Tieflings, due to the stereotypes of worshipping the Dark God Dystrigas.

Wild Elves

Also called green elves; feral, reclusive elves who scorned civilization and its trappings, preferring a wild existence close to nature. Often see themselves as an extension of nature and the wild, unlike The Wood Elves who prefer a simple lifestyle and live off the land.
Physical Characteristics
Wild elves have darker skin than other elven sub races, in a range of light brown to dark brown some even have green skin. Males are usually larger than females, sometimes by as much as five inches or twenty pounds, but wild elves differ little in size from other elves.
Wild elves, like other elves, are nimble and agile in body, but they are commonly thought of as less intelligent than their elven brethren, due in part to their aversion to civilization.
Psychology
Wild elves are a quiet, withdrawn people who neither like outsiders nor tolerate any offense to their person. In some ways, wild elves are very savage and they are quick to violence if provoked. Few things are more dangerous in the wilderness than a vengeful band of wild elves with ill intent. However, wild elves are not wholly uncouth and most would rather let trespassers go freely than harm them, so long as they learn nothing that could be used against the tribe; those who do are usually wiped of their memories rather than killed. Wild elves are also trustworthy and loyal friends who, though so slow to trust that short-lived races such as humans are often put off the attempt, will happily reward those who earn their respect and admiration in any way they can.
Culture
Wild elves live in a tribal society without many of the advances available to the other elves. They rarely craft their own magical weapons and have lost the ability to use powerful magic. There are rare cases of powerful shamans; these are almost always female who are the either tribe elders or wise woman of their respective tribes. Wild elves do retain the ceremonies and feasts often found among other Elves which are occasions of joy with singing and dancing. Hunts are occasions where each member of the tribe has his or her own particular place. Sometimes these are held on their own, and sometimes they are held as part of a larger event. Although it is common for wild elves to speak a number of languages, it is rare to find one who is literate.
Like Wood Elves, romantic and sexual relationships between the Wild Elves were often polyamorous in nature, members of the race freely engaging or ceasing relations with new partners. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness were as a result viewed by the race as reasons for teasing or mockery. As a result of these perspectives on love, high elves often believed that any relationships engaged with wood elves would be destined to fail from the start. However Wild Elves do choose a singular mate to have offspring with and the elven cultural of widows still applies to Wild Elves.
Art and Leisure
Wild elves strongly prefer art such as music and poetry to physical works of art like painting or sculpture. To a wild elf, the joy of art comes from its spontaneous creation, rather than latter appreciation. Because wild elves see the world as ever-changing and the things within it as impermanent, wild elves feel it is distasteful to write down musical scores or oral tradition, believing that it unnaturally locks the art into a sterile state. Wild elves carry on this ideology into their architecture, which is weaved into the tangled limbs of living trees in a complex web that would baffle many "civilized" architects.
Wild elves are excellent craftsmen, but they prefer tools that can be assembled or deconstructed at a moment's notice, often resulting in a primitive or even crude aesthetic, though wild elven tools are no less effective in overall use. Weapons in wild elf society tend to be those than can be created without the need for metal, a resource that is not naturally available without refinement. Bows and spears or halfspears are common weapons, as are clubs, daggers and knives made from bone. Some prefer to wear hide armor but most are content to use their innate agility or various forms of camouflage as their primary defense.
Like other elves, wild elves are fond of wild animals and try to live in harmony with their feral neighbors. Many wild elves keep animals like wolves, birds of prey, or wolverines in their tribes as guardians. Wild elves are not even adverse to keeping larger, more dangerous dire animals, who are kept as companions only slightly less often.
Magic and Religion
Magic does not play as large a part in wild elf society as it once did. During the age of the long fallen Keladrin empires the ancestors of the wild elves were as open to the study of arcane magic as any but since their fall, wild elves have abandoned its study, along with many other trappings of civilization. For these reasons, and others, wizards are uncommon. However, wild elves have, in contrast with their wood elven cousins, no particular aversion to the arcane arts and though they lack any strong traditions of the Art, they are generally welcoming of its use by sorcerers, who come by their talent naturally. Wild elves are also common practitioners of primal magic and druids are common amongst the wild elves, who typically use more words, gestures and material components in their spellcasting than is common among the druids of other races.
Wild elves have an approach to spirituality that is unusual among the other Elves, even in comparison with the drow. Of all the Gods of the Pantheon, the wild elves feel closest to Rillifane, God of the Wilds
As part of their unusual traditions, wild elves have several unique practices and beliefs. Tattoos are common among the wild elves, who often enchant the markings with power. Wild elves also believe that each member of their race has a spirit animal. These animals are believed to provide spiritual guidance and protection. Young wild elves must discover their own spirit animal by attending a ritual involving spending hours in an enclosed area filled with burning herbs. During this time, he or she is expected to have a vision of the spirit animal that will accompany him or her for the rest of his or her life
Relations with other races
Wild elves are not a very open-hearted race and are generally untrusting of outsiders, in part due to the harsh experiences of their history. Wild elves will commonly avoid or even outright attack intruders upon their lands, though not all wild elves are so extreme in their methods. Wild elves have been known to help lost adventurers, though usually such "help" involves capturing the intruders, magically altering their memories, and setting them free some distance away from their homelands. When wild elves themselves require help from outside, they will reluctantly seek it, sometimes even allowing visitors into their hidden sanctuaries.
Homelands
Wild elves almost exclusively inhabit forested areas in small tribes, locating to the wilderness of the north and the north east. Some tribes live in small villages of huts, and others live a nomadic lifestyle. It is common to find entirely male or entirely female tribes with gendered tribes being nearby to each other for the purpose of mating. Some wild elf tribes construct villages at the tops of trees, using considerable engineering skill.

Lythari

A rare and reclusive race of sylvanous elves who transformed into wolves.
Lythari are good-aligned elven lycanthropic wolves, similar in appearance to werewolves and often mistaken as such. Lythari differ from werewolves in that they have no hybrid form and are friendly and companionable when in lupine form so Rangers befried Lythari in this lupine form unaware that it is a Lythari. Although much less numerous than werewolves, a lot of Lythari worship the epithet Era'el as his worshipped as the God of the Night.
Physical Characteristics
In Elven form they'll appear similar to Wild Elves in stature and appearance however in wolven form there coats will range from silver white to light brown, copper or the purest black. Many mistake them for wolves however there are extremely subtle difference that those who have previously met Lythari or Well trained hunters can spot. The main one being there eyes as there eyes look more human and have a range of colours. Any Jewelry that they wear in human form is also noticeable in their wolven forms
Culture
Lythari packs are small, usually numbering no more than 30, a dozen or so of which will be too young to fend for themselves. Many Lythari like wolves mate for life and a Lythari union is seen through a permanent scar on the pair, which resembles a wolf bite which is made through a mating ritual in wolven form.
Lythari sometimes find mates outside they packs and as such the non Lythari mate will undergo a transformation process similar to the mating ritual, where the transformed sport a permanent scar, which resembles a wolf bite.
They do not fashion metal objects of any kind and the rare spellcasters amongst them tend to be priests of one of the nature deities.
Majority of the members of a lythari pack are treated equally, with the exception to the Alpha or the Pack Leader which seen as the protector of the pack and has upmot authority, The Oldest members of the tribe tend to be respected if they retain their youthful energy those who don't are shunned, often performing a membership ritual after reaching a certain age where they will battle younger members of the pack to retain their status as a member of the pack if they lose they will end their life as to not slow the pack down it is seen as honourable to do this those who do not are exiled and must endure a slow painful death as the young pups of the pack chase them to their death. As such, these packs tend to be at times quite anarchic with no ruling precedent as every tribe is different and are increasingly rare, as most lythari go to live in the wilds and the world outside of the continent. As many Lythari Packs have yet to venture to the vast new world of the Continent.
Lone lythari are readily accepted within normal wolf packs and treated differently but are left out of the pack hierarchy, sometimes even in Wood and Wild Elf tribe as there skills as rangers and hunters is highly valued. Evil wolves such as worgs, werewolves and wolfweres will attempt to drive off a lythari or slay him or her if at all possible. They can sense a lythari's goodliness naturally.
Some Lythari take there on their Lycan form permanently to live the life of the wilds in its purest form.
Not much is known about Lythari other than some aspects about their culture

Avariel

A rare and reclusive race of sylvanous elves found in the northern mountain regions who possess bird like qualities.
Physical Characteristics
Avariel are more delicate than their earthbound cousins, with hollow bones to aid their flight. Males often have a stereotypical Sylvanous appearance with a larger wingspan to match. Female Avariel are very slim and appear to look like Keradin Elves from a distance with a ranging wingspan, sometimes having a wingspan larger than a an Avariel male. They have pale skin, often porcelain white. An avariel's wings are usually white, but can be black, brown or speckled. Avariel are also known to practice the dyeing of wing tips. Their eyes are slightly larger than normal and range in color from brilliant blues to green or purple. Their hair color normally is a silver-white or black.
Avariel are said to have the most beautiful voices of all the Elven races, and their songs are greatly sought after by bards of other races. Some more adventurous Avariel venture to citydoms to perform on festivals and noble occasions.
The avariels' society is split into two groups which coexist together : Warlike and Peaceful. Young avariel spend time immersed in both cultures (this can last over a decade), so that no matter what sect they come from, they have a deep understanding and respect of how the other half lives. In their hidden city of Soras their is the higher District with houses the Peaceful faction and the lower District is for the warlike faction as it allows closer access to the downward draft of the mountain. The Middle Section is for the raising of children as all children are raised by the priests and priestesses in a large temple closed off to others. Avariel Children never know there parentage as they are raised by the priests and priestesses. Many Avariel view them with the highest amount of respect as they were the ony who selflessly raised all of the inhabitants of Soras.
Warlike Group
Avariel warriors of the Lower District are geared towards war and power, answering to war chiefs who govern avariel society equally with the religious leaders. They live by a complex code of honor and spend their lives defending their race. In combat, these avariel show no mercy, often using ranged attacks from above and believing that others should know better than to create an enemy of a superior foe, such as themselves. They also view surrender to be dishonorable (for both themselves as well as their enemies), holding the idea that when a warrior draws blood, it is a promise of battle.
Peaceful Group
The other side of the avariel society includes scholars, philosophers and artists who live in the upper district as well as the priests and priestess who live in the middle district who handrear the Avariel children. Intellectuals who believe in solving problems through reason and diplomacy, these avariels spend much time researching magic and history, contemplating religion and worshiping Aerdrie Faenya, and producing art for the sheer joy of creation. This is also where the majority of the council resides, with two members living in the lower and middle district.
Travel between the districts can be difficult for those unfamiliar to the system such as Avariel who live outside the city of Soras. Few are allowed access to the Middle District those, seen as teachers to the children are permitted. For travel between the upper and lower district requires permits and letters of passage that need regular updating, which can be done at the district gates for a fee each month or each trip through.
Settlement
The last known shelter for the Avariels is the hidden city of Soras which is thought to be legend by non Avariel it is atop the summit on the tallest mountain in the northern mountain range which separates The Continent from the rest of the world the mountains also named Soras. There are also smaller towns and villages situated on the mountain which allow for more interaction between the faction, many create towns and villages to raise Avariel through their own parentage however the rules Soras are far reaching down the mountain and places called Aviaries are created to raised children under the clergy however children in Aviary maintain relationships with their parents as the clergy in charge of the aviaris do not police the rules of Soras as heavily as the clergy living in the Middle District.
Religion
Most revered Akadi, the goddess of air, wind, tempests and mountains. The place of Akadi is even greater in the worshiping of other members of The Continent's pantheon as she was considered to be the one that created the mountain range for the Avariel and other aviation species to live and thrive on.
Relation to other races
Avariels had good relationship with good aligned race found in the sky. They have strong ties with the Aarakocra as they share the same patron deity and had the same respect for nature, as well as many Aarakocra living on the mountain range in the North. For a very long time they have nourished respectful and admirative bonds with giant eagles. However many other races are treated with disdain and killed on sight to keep Soras and the Avariel safe. Northern Dwarves are tolerate so long as the stay at the foot of the mountain, in fact main Northern Dwarves have knowledge of the Avariel's presence on Mount Soras they believe them to be the stuff of legends.

Aquatic Elves

Aquatic elves were water-breathing cousins to land-dwelling elves.
Physical Appearance
Although they were of the same subrace, aquatic elves from the south seas had a different appearance to those from the northern seas.
he former had deep green skin, mottled and striped with brown. The latter had blue skin with white stripes and patches. Both groups were robust and tall with long limbs. Their thick skin gave them protection from the cold of deep water, keeping them comfortable at just above freezing temperatures. Their fingers and toes were generally about twice as long as a human's and had thick webbing between them. Their most distinctive feature was the gills visible in their necks and over their ribs. The ears were the longest of the elves ending in to orbs looking similar to the orbs of angler fish, These were used to disorient sharks and sirens at night. Due to their gills, aquatic elves were amphibious. The amount of time aquatic elves could leave the water without doing harm to themselves seemed to vary. The safe period could be a few minutes, hours,a day, or even upwards of a week. Aquatic Elves can obtain potions that help them stay on land longer. These can be found by the Wisewoman of Sharalin Cove.
Psychology
Aquatic elves were isolationist by both their nature and the physical location of their settlements, although they were not quite as reclusive as the wild elves. Their trust did not extend far beyond their clan and others of their kind, and their communities were very tightly-knit. They couldn't understand why the surface elves did not realize that community and alliances meant survival, whereas rivalry, individualism, and factionalism meant death. However, despite being extremely cautious, they were also extremely curious, and aquatic elves near the shore would often spend a significant amount time secretly observing the land-bound races.
Culture
Aquatic elven society was based on family and clan. Noble families and monarchs ruled, but in a benign and loose fashion rather than with an iron fist. While women could and did have positions of power, aquatic elven society was largely patriarchal and inheritance ran first through the eldest son.
The concept of private property, for the most part, did not exist among aquatic elves.Whatever given aquatic elf currently carried on their person could be considered theirs, but everything else belonged to the community as a whole. This particularly applied to tools, weapons, and other practical items. Any aquatic elf could take one of these items whenever it was needed and regardless of who had possessed it previously, although individuals were allowed to keep relatively private dwellings. Such communal ownership meant theft was almost unknown. The exceptions to this were monarchs, who often had large and elaborate homes with limited access and many personal items. However, aquatic elven rulers were a reflection of their people and usually remained rather generous. The freedom to borrow items at will was not extended to outsiders, and surfacers were often watched carefully to make sure they did not try to take advantage of the cultural practice.
Aquatic elves held promises sacred and would rather die than fail to complete something they had sworn to do. If they died in the process, their kin took over the responsibility to complete it. The slightest implication that an aquatic elf wouldn't keep his word was deeply offensive. However, promises received from non-elves were highly suspect, both because aquatic elves knew that other races won't honor the promises of their dead and because only other elves had the lifespan to complete any serious task.
Aquatic elves from the eastern and southern seas either went lightly clad or wore no clothes at all as the waters are warm in that region. Their clothes were formed from underwater plants and made with intricate designs in shades of black, brown, and green. Many just wrapping themselves i kelp and seaweed to have some form of modesty.
Aquatic elves in the Northwest wore clothes more often as warmth and Northern Aquatic Elves tend to be more modest than those from the south.
Arts, Crafting & Leisure
Sculpture was the primary art form of aquatic elves, as other mediums were likely to be destroyed by the water in short order. Intricately carved reliefs cover the walls of most cities, and statues were common.
Aquatic elves were also quite musical. Their powerful voices traveled farther than expected underwater, and their thrumming songs brought to mind whalesong and dolphin noises. The songs were often very long and evoked the rolling calm of the ocean. Bards were common in aquatic elven society.
Because they lived underwater, the products of aquatic elven crafting often differed significantly from their counterparts on the surface. They developed a range of waterproof magical items, and a system of writing underwater using either cured sharkskin or thick seaweed and an extremely viscous ink. They did not commonly use metal, as it was almost impossible to forge underwater and would corrode quickly.9] What little metal they did use was traded for or scavenged from shipwrecks. The exception to this was gold, which would not corrode and was easily shaped in its raw form. Beaten gold jewelry was common among aquatic elves. Most aquatic elven items were crafted from stone, coral, shells, and animal materials such as bone, narwhal horns, turtle shells, sharkskin, or chitin.
Aquatic elves commonly crafted tridents of serenity, a type of magical weapon which would keep sahuagin in the vicinity of the weapon from entering a blood frenzy and were given to elves patrolling the borders of a territory. They also developed longbows with bowstrings made of a special kelp that dampened vibrations and turbulence. Combined with specially crafted arrows, these bows functioned without the usual drastic loss of momentum that most ranged weapons suffered underwater. Chitinous armor was commonly used, and the elves of the Inner Sea wore silverweave armor crafted from coral that had been specially treated by the local tritons or shalarin, although this was usually limited to a pair of armored leggings to maintain their mobility.
Relation to other races.
Aquatic elves were extremely isolationist. There were some aquatic elves who did not even know that the surface existed, let alone a whole world beyond it. Even other underwater races were generally kept at a distance, regardless of alignment. Aquatic elves fought fiercely against evil races and did not see the point of mingling with their shorter-lived neighbors even if they were of similar alignment.
This isolation extended even to other elves, although if aquatic elves had to interact with anyone they preferred that it be their surface kin. The aquatic elves of Shalarin Cove were less isolated from their kin, having decided that it was necessary for the survival of their children to learn more of the surface world.
Aquatic elves hated sahuagin and sharks more than any other creature and would often attack them on sight. They were driven to destroy them at every opportunity. Aquatic elven societies were occasionally infiltrated by a certain type of mutated sahuagin that looked almost exactly like them, known as a malenti. Interestingly, normal sahuagin only spawned malenti when they lived in close proximity to aquatic elven communities. Tritons believed that this was because the two races were related, the sahuagin having been created by drow experiments upon aquatic elven captives. The elves flatly denied this shared origin, and in fact many believed that malenti did not exist at all.
They were also incredibly wary of human fisherman since aquatic elves who were caught in their nets were often mistaken for sahuagin and killed. Aquatic elves maintained neutral relations with merfolk and locathah. Tritons and marine storm giants sometimes lived in harmony with aquatic elven settlements.
Aquatic half-elves were very rare since aquatic elves do not leave the water often and had little interest in interacting with humans. Additionally, the ability of aquatic half-elves to breathe underwater was variable, and as such even those few that did exist were often cut off from sea elven culture. However, a few aquatic elves remained invested in their children's lives, and would visit them when they came out onto the water. Aquatic elves did also sometimes reproduce with surface elves (generally sun or moon elves), which resulted in an elf who looked like the subrace of their surface parent except for the greenish tinge to their hair. Unlike aquatic half-elves or even their full blood parents, all such offspring were fully amphibious, having gills that were hidden on their necks but being able to comfortably breathe air indefinitely. As such, they were fully capable of living among their aquatic kin, and those whose mothers were aquatic elves often did.
Aquatic elves would sometimes took in water genasi children to raise, although in general the genasi secretly pitied the elves for not being able to leave the water for long periods without certain magics. Water genasi who served Sirenetaxes as Clergy sometimes worked as emissaries between aquatic elves and their surface cousins. Aquatic elves had stories of planetouched aquatic elves descended from servants of Sirenetaxes, but there have been no recent examples of such people.
The creatures aquatic elves had the closest relationship with were dolphins.Any large group of aquatic elves had a 50% chance of being accompanied by a number of dolphins. They held whales in great reverence as well, with many of their settlements being built on whale migration routes so that they could interact with the creatures regularly. Young aquatic elves would even travel with a whale pod for a year as a sort of pilgrimage.
