Speed 30ft

The Hengeyokai, or "Spirit" "Apparition" in the language of Kara-tur. These beings come from the nearby reality of Kakuriyo, or the Spirit Veil. A realm of Lung dragons, spirits and monsters unknown to Faerun. Dispite their name the Hengeyokai are actually no type of spirit, but sentient animal creatures with shapechanging abilities unlike any in our realm. The forms they can take are so alien and distinct that it's difficult to imagine them as trickery spirits that Shou folklore suggests. Also they are an incredibly varied people, each taking up an important function within Kakuriyo for balancing the spiritual nature of the realm. Fire, Earth, Water, Wood and Metal making up all the varied aspects of the realms spirits and the shape of the land itself. Many of their youth to have adventures in the Prime Material Plane, coming back with experience and maturity to tend to the Spirits of the Veil.   Names: (male) An, Chen, Chi, Fai, Jiang, Jun,Lian, Long, Meng, On, Shan, Shui, Wen; (female) Bai, Chao, Jia, Lei, Mei, Qiao, Shui, Tai; (surnames) Chien, Huang, Kao, Kung, Lao, Ling, Mei, Pin, Shin, Sum, Tan, Wan.

Languages: Karaturian   Skill of the Yokai: As an action, you can transform into a medium sized human, a medium sized hybrid form, or a small beast equivalent to your particular subtype of Yokai. You transform into the animal form when you die, and the animal form is unique in several ways making disguising as a natural beast difficult. You maintain the same statistics and can speak all the languages in each form. You gain a natural weapon in hybrid and animal form, and cannot hold items in animal form. Your true nature is spiritual, thus the more astute and intuitive may look at you and sense a supernatural element about you, a hint of fox ears in your hair, the flick of an imaginary rat tail.   Natural Weapons: When in hybrid or animal form, your bites and claws deal 1d6 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice).

Kitsune

The blessed nine-tailed fox demons, not literal demons or fiends of any kind, merely called demons for their love of manipulation and lies for the sake of pure deception. While many kitsune can blend perfectly within society, or keep to the spirituality of the Towabara Kingdom. They also have several negative associations with the Oni and their hordes of creatures amongst innocent bystanders in the mortal realms, either because of the few renegade Kitsune that ally with darkness, or the ‘Warriors of Cleansing Fire’ that eliminate witnesses and the ‘tainted’.   Animal Form: The kitsune has between two and nine distinct tails, and are either jet black, snow white or bright red fur. Their eyes also have a distinctive reddish-purple glow in twilight.

Mujina

The badger, or raccoon dog of Shou, are seen as a good omen for crop harvests. Their natural protectorate instincts means that Mujina are often the first line of defense against the creatures of the Void in Kara-tur, watching over their favoured communities and protecting them from outside threats and curses on their crops. They tend to avoid the Kami, considering themselves a protector of the prime material from the Kakuriyo.   Animal Form: Looks like a relatively plumb badger with many beautiful flowers woven into the fur on their back. They often build small mounds covered in beautiful flowers coding a tapestry of their legacy and achievements.

Nezumi

The earth Tenders, protectors of the Takenuma Swamps from the wraith of the Kitsune and humans. They spend most of their lives in hybrid form, and while they can be fully human or rat they find it distressing to be either for prolonged periods of time. They are also the least magically gifted of all the Yokai, a crux they overcome with stealth and the excellent application of Blackcraft and Poisons.   Animal Form: The only yokai who can also hold items in their limbs while fully animal, they tend towards browns and black fur rats, but pale grey Nezumi are born and venerated for their spirituality.

Orochi

The protectors of the Jukai Forest and the Monks of the Life’s Web and Great Trees on the spirit realm. They jealously protect their lands from all outsiders with a very rigid caste system and ruthless social control to protect them from the corrupting influence of Oni invaders. They have a great deal of respect to animal and beast-life, but disinterested in sentient beings as a general rule, and are far more passionate and warm-blooded than one would expect of a snake-like race.   Animal Form: You transform into a brilliant emerald green or yellow snake with a distinctive red dot over the forehead and glowing eyes.
Resistance: Poison
Proficiencies: Survival   Secondary Arms: You have a weaker pair of arms underneath your primary arms. Your smaller arms have a reach of 5 feet, and you can use them to lift a number of pounds equal to five times your Strength score. You can use these arms to do the following simple tasks: lift, drop, hold, push, or pull an object or a creature; open or close a door or a container; grapple someone; or make an unarmed strike. Your secondary arms can’t wield weapons or shields. Your GM might allow other simple tasks to be added to that list of options.   Jukai Secrets: You know the Poison Spray cantrip. Tanuki

While tanuki are not generally feared or considered malicious yokai, they are not entirely harmless either. Often adopting human practices and customs, such as gambling, drinking, even administration and religious activities. Many go through their whole lives living among humans without ever being detected. In human form, tanuki have proven to be as corruptible as the humans they emulate, and some tanuki have well-earned reputations as thieves, drunkards, liars, and cheats.   Animal Form: You transform into a small raccoon-dog, reddish colour but always carrying your distintive kasa hat. Even if you do not wear one in human or hybrid form, you have one in animal form.

Your spellcasting ability for this spell is your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. You can also cast this spell normally with any spell slots you have.

Tsuru

The crane hates it’s hybrid form, which it considers clunky and undignified, ironically only using it when crafting magical crane fabrics. They value romantic partnerships more than any other achievement, considering the dignity and nobility of their potential mate before settling down, requiring a parent worthy of the crane. Considered quite arrogant by the other Yokai, which is a bit of a kettle-black situation really.   Animal Form: A brilliant white crane with sapphire-blue shimmer on the tips of the wings and tail, and jet back legs, neck and head. The red spot on the forehead of the crane also marks them as a Tsuru, a symbol of their inner nobility which they would never deface.
Proficiencies: Persuasion, Weaving   Secrets of Ongaeshi: You know the Friends cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Goodberry spell once per day.
