Medusas are the victims of ancient curses, those punished for crossing wielders of strong and twisted magic. The most common reasons for the creation of a Medusa are as a punishment for someone defying a divine being or as a way for the old Yuan-Ti empire to bring down those who opposed them. After the curse is applied the victim will find their hair turn into a mass of writhing snakes, their pupils taken from their now expressionless eyes and their sharpened into fanged protrusions.   As a Medusa Character, you gain the following traits:   Petrifying Gaze. Once per long rest, when a creature is within 5 ft. of you and is making direct eye contact, you can force it to make a DC 14 Constitution saving. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the creature is instantly Petrified. Otherwise, a creature that fails the save begins to turn to stone and is Restrained. The Restrained creature must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn, becoming Petrified on a failure or ending the effect on a success. The petrification lasts until the creature is freed by the Greater Restoration spell or other magic. Unless surprised, a creature can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If the creature does so, it can't see you until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again. If the creature looks at the you in the meantime, it must immediately make the save.   However, if you see yourself reflected on a polished surface within 30 ft. of it and in an area of bright light, you are, due to your curse, affected by your own gaze.   Cursed Being. You gain the ability to take one of any trait you wish from the race your character was before you were cursed.
