Children of the Lakes. The Axoloids are essentially anthropomorphic Axolotls. Like the Axolotl, they have elaborate visible gills, beady eyes, mouths with tiny little teeth, and long finny tails. They can come in several colors including blue, white, turquoise, yellow, pink, and even black! Their gills are usually pink in color, but occasionally takes on similar colors to the rest of their skin. They always seem to be smiling. Axoloids usually live about 50 years, though in rare cases they can live twice that age.
Axoloids are extremely relaxed by nature, not really warriors by default. They get along with anyone who will take the time to get to know them and accept them despite their strangeness. They especially like anyone who will just sit down with them and enjoy some rest and relaxation. Axoloid society is usually run by the eldest in a village, who is well respected for their wisdom and experience. They are advised by other elders, and when forming nations the elders of each village come together and choose a Grand Elder to lead them.
Philosophy over Religion. Unlike many other races, most Axoloids don’t really care about religion. When asked how they came to be, most Axoloids simply smiled, shrugged, and told me they don’t really care. They genuinely don’t care how they came to exist, they’re just happy that they do. Rather than practice religion they instead spend their days simply enjoying life to the fullest. This lack of religion should not be confused for lack of intelligence however.
What the Axoloids lack in organized religion they make up for in philosophy and what they lack in myths they make up for in fables. Axoloids are philosophers more than anything, and love to debate morals and ethics in a sane and respectful way. Rather than get heated, they just remain calm and actually listen to each other. Because of this, they are very good public speakers and politicians.
The fables of Ashau are the most famous, as they often have a mythical aspect to them and depict gods and goddesses of various pantheons meeting, fighting, and learning lessons the hard way. Very few of his stories end well for all parties involved, but his most famous story is about a young Axoloid meeting and befriending a Crocodile who he doesn’t realize is actually a Crocodilain deity and when the kid is bullied by a Minotaur, he cries to the croc god who reveals his true form and brutally murders the bully. They continue being friends afterward. The moral is supposed to be “Be nice to everyone because friends can come from anywhere.”
Relaxed lives. The main philosophy for the Axoloid is basically “Don’t worry, be happy,” and they are typically very happy-go-lucky and relaxed, because their other main philosophy is that “Anger does no good for anyone.” These form the cornerstones of their societies and they are the main holders of political power in Wildor along with the Falcori. Axoloids are often advisors to Falcori lords and vice versa.
As a result, Axoloids live slowly and enjoy each moment as much as they can. They see no reason to rush most of the time, and are often seen as lazy by other races of the world. They are quite like hippies, but without all the recreational drugs. An Axoloid very rarely speaks without thought or thinks out loud, and spend long amounts of time deliberating on decisions. Because of this, they can often come off as wise even if they actually aren't.
Mechanics. Axoloids can breathe underwater, and gain proficiency in Persuasion.
