Skywing elves are linked to the Primal force of the sky in Xadia.
Physical Description
Like all elves, Skywing elves have four fingers and four toes. Like many other elves, there is a perceptible gradient in their skin -- the hands and face tend to be darker or more vivid, fading into the paler or less saturated arms and neck.
Skywing elves are physically slight, particularly when compared to Sunfire elves. Like most elves, they have horns and pointed ears, but there's notable variety in both of these. A trend toward ramlike curving horns has been seen.
Their natural colouration is generally reflective of the hues of the sky. Heterochromia of the eyes has been seen among them.
A small proportion, about less than ten percent, are gifted with wings. Some use a spell to turn their arms into wings. Wing colours are reflective of natural bird feathers rather than their own hair or skin.
Influence of the Sky Primal
Skywing elves do not suffer from altitude sickness, and are at home in high places.
Those who fly tend to have clothes that are fitted and slim, limiting drag and turbulence. Winged elves necessarily dress to limit the interference with their wings.
Their connection to the Sky Primal grants them particular facility with sky magic, including wind, storms and lightning.
Skywing Traits
The greatest distinction between Skywing elves is whether or not they have wings.
Ability Score Increase. Charisma is increased by 1, dexterity by 2.
Speed. Base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Keen Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
Primal Connection. You know the
gust cantrip. At 1st level you know the
feather fall spell. At 3rd level you learn the
skywrite spell. At 5th level you learn the call
lightning spell. All spells granted by this trait can only be used one time per long rest. Charisma is your spell casting ability for those spells.
Create Wings. At 5th level you can expend an action to turn your arms into a pair of large, feathered wings for 1 minute. You gain a flying speed of 60 feet but cannot use spells that require somatic components. You also cannot hold an object while your hands have been transformed. You can use an action to dismiss them. This spell is not relevant for winged elves.
Natural Wings. These replace the Create Wings ability and are somewhat smaller. They can be used as an unarmed strike with proficiency, dealing a blast of air of 1d6 damage. Carrying wings is ungainly and movement speed on the ground is reduced to 25 feet. These wings grant advantage evading attacks from smaller ground-based melee by hopping. Flying speed is 50 feet.
Falling With Style: Because you know how the wind and the air work, you know how to position your body in a fall to suffer the least harm, even if you have your wings restrained. You are resistant to fall damage when not incapacitated.
