Sporefolk is a race of mushroom and fungi humanoid creatures created 100 years ago by an evil druid in a lab. The druid desired to make an army of unstoppable warriors that could be self-producing and self-sustaining. Using forbidden magics, she made the very first Sporefolk. Once the druid was defeated in battle, the Sporefolk were released from the lab into the nearby forest, now called Fungal Acres. Since then, the Sporefolk's race has thrived and become more advanced overtime. Sporefolk are a little shorter then the average humanoid, around 5 ft, and usually have two arms and legs, although that sometimes differs. Sporefolk live around 25 years and reach maturity around 10 years. All Sporefolk are agender (use whatever pronouns you want) and the mature ones reproduce asexually by planting a spore from the top of their head in fertile soil. The new spore is the same subclass as the parent and becomes a baby Sporefolk in about 3 months. There are 5 sub-classes; Hericium, Gigantea, Tranetes, Amanita, and Mycena. There are different stat bonuses for each, which is as follows. - Hericium, also known as the Bearded Tooth, have long, hair-like fungi over their entire bodies, often covering their face and eyes. They are still able to get around without fail, however, thanks to the microscopic feelers on each "hair". This subclass is extremely wise in the ways of the world, using the "hairs" to feel around their environment. Their colors range from yellow white to golden brown. (+1 Wisdom) - Gigantea, known ironically as the Giant Puffball, is the powerhouse of the Sporefolk. Standing around 6 ft tall, towering for a Sporefolk, Gigantea are much tougher and stronger than the others. They are often a milky white to a pale grey in color. (+1 Strength) - Tranetes are often called the Turkey Tail because of their unique fungi. Their fungi are colorful plates of rings ranging from light brown to almost a dark blue in color. They are also a little more slender than the rest of their fungal cousins. These features allow people to catch more attention of them, resulting in more effective social situations. (+1 Charisma) - Amanita is the most common type of Sporefolk. They have the more classic bell-shaped red spores with white spots. They are the shortest and livest of the bunch, allowing them to dodge and run faster than others in battle. (+1 Dexterity) - Mycena is the rarest of the Sporefolk, having the unique ability to glow in the dark. These creatures, often called the Bio-luminescent, can glow so brightly that they can grant darkvision to any creature 15 ft next to them. They are also highly intelligent and pride themselves in learning about the world. They range from light yellow to a dark green. (+1 Intelligence) (DM Notes - All of these mushrooms exist in real life, so if you're looking to draw a Sporefolk, look up these mushrooms for references.) Features - All subclass have the level-3 Speak with Plants spell and can cast it once per day. - All Sporefolk have darkvision. - Sporefolk do not sleep, but rather photosynthesize. This means that they have to spend at least four hours in bright sunlight to regain all hit points and spell slots. If bright sunlight is not available, artificial light from a spell or firelight will do. However, if a Sporefolk spends more than 7 days away from sunlight, their spores begin to wilt and they become uncharacteristically irritable. Name Choices The only tradition that the Sporefolk keep from their evil druid master is the choosing of their names. While in containment, every Sporefolk were given a number in order to be kept track of. The number was carved in iron and made to wear around their necks. After their release, they took all of their numbers and thought to smelt them until they realized that some, when turned upside-down, made words. The leaders of the Sporefolk keep all of the numbers that form names in a large deerskin bag, which baby Sporefolk pick a name out of randomly. They are often called by their name and then their subclass as their full name, like ELI Amanita. The ELI is 371 upside down. Use whatever letters you like, but it usually goes like this.
