Spellcasting Focus As long as you carry the staff you can summon a ghostly cicada-like insect that behaves as though you had summoned it with the Find Familiar spell.
As an action the staff can be planted in the chest of a corpse and one of the vines will slither down in the body, raising it a short time later as a Blight.
A medium corpse can produce either two small blights or one medium blight. Their power level depends on the level of the corpse used (this destroys the corpse completely and can only be used on an intact, un-butchered corpse.)
On each of your turns, you can use a bonus action to mentally command any Blight created by the staff if it is within 60 feet of you. You can command any number of Blights at once but can only issue a single command to all of them. If you issue no commands the Blights follow you and defend you/themselves from hostile creatures.
Vines can be replaced by performing an hour-long ritual which involves planting the staff in the ground, in an area with sufficient natural plant life. At the end of the ritual, all natural plant life in a 30ft radius is killed and a new vine slithers up onto the staff. The ritual may be used to recover two vines but doing so increases the drain, not only killing plant life but rendering the area completely barren and preventing any plants from growing there again for a period of 10 years.
