Perytons are monstrous, carnivorous hybrids that prefer to prey on mortal flesh. They have the wings and talons of an eagle, the head of a stag, and the jaws of a dragon. They are relentless hunters and their sexual biology even requires them to consume the heart of a mortal in order to reproduce. They fight wing and nail but if somehow driven off, perytons are known to stalk their lost prey from afar and wait until a new opportunity arises.
Perytons are most often found roosting in high mountain ridges or hidden hilltop caves. They prey on creatures living or wandering in the vales below and often are attracted to established settlements where they can find a renewable source of food. As such, they are often targeted by mortal communities and seasoned adventurers seeking to claim a good bounty.
