The Traveler's Guide to Aellorah
Rite of the Poltergeist
1-level Necromancy
Ritual - does not require spell slot, takes 10 minutes longer
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range/Area: 60 ft.
Components: Verbal, Material
Materials: a filled soulstone, a small inconspicuous object
Duration: 24 hours
This rite allows you to create a series of harmless sensory effects and disturbances in the area 60 ft. around the caster, giving the impression to superstitious folk that the area is haunted. Upon completion of the ritual, you can choose up to 3 of the following effects to be produced in the area:
- Footsteps - The sound of footsteps can be heard somewhere neardby, but never where nearby creatures may be looking. From another room, from right behind them...
- Moaning - The sound of anguished moaning can be heard nearby. You can specify what type of creature the moans appear to be coming from.
- Wind - Small gusts of wind will blow past nearby creatures, or blow out candles, torches, and other light sources.
- Cold - Rooms that nearby creatures are in will suddenly drop in temperature, causing puffs of frosted breath and shivers down their spines (if they have them).
- Slams - Crashes and bangs can be heard. They will always come from a place out of sight of nearby creatures. Occasionally doors may slam shut on their own.
- Odors - Nearby creatures will catch a whiff of the scent of sulphur, rotting corpses, and other unpleasant things associated with death.
You can specify very simple instructions for when the effects should occur, such as "footsteps every hour". If you do not, they will occur randomly throughout the duration of the spell.
This spell can only be cast as a ritual.
