Way of the Beast Stance

Certain monasteries will teach martial arts by using stances that are analogous to certain beasts. These stances are to help the fighters hone in on specific forms of attack and defense, along with being able to optimize their fighting style.

Way of the Beast Stance

When you choose this subclass at 3rd level, you learn to fully utilize certain stances taught from your training days. You choose which stance to enter at the start of your turn and that stance requires a one round recharge time. You gain the following stances:
  • Crane: This stance focuses on fluidity and agility. In this stance, your martial arts die reduces by one size (minimum D4). However, you gain an extra 5ft of movement speed and your Step of the Wind ability automatically activates when you expend a ki point for anything.
  • Tiger: This stance is an offense-based stance. Your martial arts die for unarmed strikes increase by one size and you deal slashing damage instead of bludgeoning damage. Additionally, once per turn, you can expend a ki point in order to add an extra damage die to the unarmed strike.
  • Tortoise: This is a defensive stance that sacrifices movement for toughness. When you enter this stance, you lose 5ft of movement, but you gain the ability to reduce all forms of incoming damage by a roll of your martial arts die.

Improved Stance

At 6th level, your stances' effectiveness increases greatly. Your stances can now last up to 3 rounds
  • Your Crane Form now grants a +10 to movement speed and Step of the Wind automatically activates for a turn of initiating the form.
  • Your Tiger Form now allows you to add your proficiency bonus to your unarmed strike damage in addition.
  • Your Tortoise Form now allows you to reduce all incoming damage by two rolls of martial arts dice. Additionally, using Patient Defense grants an AC bonus equal to your proficiency bonus.
