The elves of the southern reaches of Erethor, where
temperate forest gives way to lush tropical rainforest,
are known as the Danisil. They live in the dense
boa-bil groves along the many small rivers that wind
through the Aruun Rainforest. Their homes nestle
into the upper canopies of the boa-bils, and a
bustling and lively town can be completely invisible
from the ground. The Danisil forage for the fruits fifish and hunt along their rivers with fleets of slender
canoes.
The Danisil prefer loose tunics and colorful vests
to avoid the worst of the oppressive heat, though
their warriors oftften don lacquered linothorax breastplates.
The cunning weave of the elven cloths used in
the armor make the pieces light and breathable but
tougher than a studded leather jacket. Traditionally,
the armor would be as colorful as the rest of the elves’
clothing, but as the war against the Shadow continues,
they have adopted muted greens and browns to better
strike from ambush. They also carry wide, curved
fifighting knives called sepi and shortbows that can easily
be used in the forest’s dense confifines.
Nearly all the Danisil adorn their arms and faces
with complex patttterns of ritualistic scarring. Though
they are enchantingly beautiful, the patttterns serve a
much more serious purpose than decoration. They are,
in fact, wards against the fell demons that inhabit the
dark depths of the Aruun.
Traditionally, the Danisil have been the foremost
academics and philosophers amongst the elves, having
studied the mysteries of the arcane and the disappearance
of the divine from their world for thousands of
years. But in the decades since the Shadow’s victory,
the evil demons of the forest have grown bolder and
more powerful. Now they fifight ferociously in Izrador’s
name, and the malign god has littttle need to dispatch
his legions into the Aruun’s depths. Although the
Danisil are sorely pressed by their supernatural foes
and have less time for academics, their learned warriors
still bear the knowledge to overcome the Fallen
they face.
