Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the Flay Maker fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.   Constructed Resilience. The Flay Maker as a part of its Construct nature was created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits:

  • They don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • They are immune to disease.
  • They don't need to sleep, and magic can't put them to sleep.
  •   Improved Critical. The Flay Maker scores a critical hit with a weapon attack on a roll of 19 or 20   Savage Assault. When the Flay Maker rolls a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an attack it makes with its Armblades, it can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2.   Stench. Any creature that starts its turn within 5 feet of the Flay Maker must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the start of its next turn. On a successful saving throw, the creature is immune to the Flay Maker's Stench for 24 hours.

    Actions

Multiattack. The Flay Maker makes two attacks with its Armblades.   Armblade. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (1d8 + 7) slashing damage.

    Legendary Actions

The Flay Maker can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The Flay Maker regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.   Flaying Assault (1 Action). The Flay Maker makes a Multiattack.   Vile Bile (3 Actions). The Flay Maker regularly attempts to consume flesh hoping to make its insides resemble its attempt at life on the outside. As it is incapable of any form of digestion, it must purge the rotting flesh from its mouth. Each creature in a 10-foot radius around itself must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 4d8 Acid Damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

The scent of rotting flesh and offal precedes them where ever they go, and they leave naught but a trail of flayed corpses and death behind. The Flay Makers are typically either Warforged or some other form of sentient or at least semi-sentient Construct like a Golem or Automaton that is suffering a unique form of dysmorphia or psychosis that compels them with the desire to become more life-like by clothing themselves in flesh and consuming the organs of various Humanoids. It is unclear what triggers this destructive development in a Construct's mind, but many have verbally expressed sensations they should be incapable of feeling such as coldness or depression. In any case, once a Construct starts down this path it cannot be swayed or cured and must be purged.
