Calgren

To learn more Visit the Calgren. Page below are just the basic features and personality typical of a Calgren as well as basic Culture. Physical Details       History and Origin Myths: While other races and Cultures have many terrifying tales of history and myths that portray the violent species as inherent monsters, the Calgren do not tend to keep records of their own own history, not even in the oral tradition as for most of them its unimportant, many scholars theorise this is due to the hostile nature of their environment, forcing the Calgren to adopt a mentality of that the only history that matters is the one we are currently living, with only warnings and survivals skills passed on, however despite all this there are myths that are passed down through the oral tradition through shamans and witch doctors, Speak of one myth varied in some details sort and end the same.   It started with gold skinned giant warrior mighty and chained to the top of the mountain, it knew not why it was chained as it was there from birth, chains that held it down with pains and agonising roars, it would not would let the warrior ever free ever since it was bore into the mountain screaming and crying, did those chains lash on with teeth and wroth, as the years whent by the warrior could never leave the mountaintop as the chains that bound him dragged him back, again...and again, this great warrior without knowing why or how, knew that it would remain on the mountaintop till it died of some cause be it old age or the chains finally growing bored of roaring, that would have been the case, if not for a great godlike beast approaching the warrior, its scaly iron like tail crashing into the mountain like thunder, its reptillian hide so dark and black that under the light it simple appeared to a vacant black hole, apart from its glimmers of redish spikes across its back, and the three massive maws that lied between the jaws of the crocodillian like head this great beast of Mawrakdin the everconsuming, its words breaking into mind of the gold skinned giant, like a hammer against a anvil.   Mawrakdin offered the Giant a deal, "LITTLE GIANT, LOOK HOW YOU FREEDOM HAS EARNED YOU, NAUGHT BUT IGNORANCE AND PAIN, BUT I WILL FEAST, AND YOU WILL BE FREE, I WILL SET YOU FREE TO SEE YOUR KIN, AND YOU WILL SEE THEM GROW BIG AND STRONG, AND WITH YOUR STRENGTH THEY WILL SHAKE THE MOUNTAINS WITH YOUR ROARS". The Golden giant, thought, and thought, the great beast waited watching this morsel fight with his chains and his desperation with sadistic glee, The giant finally gave in and accepted the beastgods deal, in an instant it felt the pain in its stomach intensify causing the great giant to collapse for the last time, the stomach which had agonised them all their life, burst with great red skinned halfgiants each with three horns, and one with 12, the golden giants last moments of life was that to see thier own offspring cannibalising the ones which birthed them, with the 12 horned monster devouring the heart in one gulp, as the life passed the golden giant heard the Mawrakdin roar with satisfaction for the feasts to come, thus was the birth of the calgren   This myth changes, from tribes making up reason to why the giant was imprisoned to gender of the giant, to the location but the major details remain the same, the rest of the history of the calgren is traditionally unknown, unless its involving the calgren attacking or marching upon the rest of the world to satisfy their endless hunger and appease their ravished god, strangely only two Figures have been named in the Myth, Mawrakdin and Calgriniosh the 12 horned calgren that ate his creators heart.   Culture: The culture of the Calgren is akin to a traditional Patriarchal Tribal hierarchy with the Khan on top, with a shaman offering wisdom and channelling the spirit of both Mawrakdin and the spirits of the Great Khans, however the culture while tradtional tribal is extremly cruel and harsh to the calgren, the blasted wastes are almost inhospitable with monsters, lack of edible food that wont cause agonising death and so much of the Dreaded Rot that water sources are scarce, that not to mention the volcanoes and barren wastes scattered around.   Tribal Nature and the Hunger: The Tribal nature of the calgren focuses mainly on two things in daily life, One is to satiate their endless hunger, and second becoming stronger, the hunger is a defining fact of calgren as some interpret the myth of thier origin that the calgren were literally hunger incarnate it does not help the fact that non-carnivorous food stuffs cannot ease the hunger, so farming and plant life (for the most part) cannot help their situation, calgren tribes tend to stick a simplistic lifestyle, hunting, eating fighting repeat, though some tribes have unique quirks depending on thier environment as calgren can sometimes change due to the environment they are in, a example would be calgren living on mountain tops can be Antares to the cold and give praise to the primodial elementals, while calgren that live south of the blasted wastes in the lush green may give praise to nature and fey beings for a good hunt, and even trade with other calgren, however it would be foolish to think calgren as friendly as though they can be hired for food as mercenaries and soldiers those in the blasted wastes are as brutal harsh and cruel as they come.     Cannablism: in order to survive only the strongest can survive and cannibalism is common place, however despite being a horrific practise in other parts of the world to the calgren its a honour for a old calgren to fed to younger generation, for the calgren eating an enemy is sacred, cause you are consuming their strength, cunning and wisdom, filling yourself on that power, so older calgren to allow the next generation to feed on them, this respect also expends to enemies being eaten by a calgren maybe a rather grizzly fate, though for the calgren its a sign of respect it translates to "You are mighty, i will eat you for your might to be part of mine" this also extends to a lesser degree of mating rituals, one of the worst insults a calgren can give, is to refuse to eat them as unworthy.   However some calgren take this to a extreme whether for the pleasure of showing superiority of out of desperation due to lack of food, eat the smallest of young when born or calgren that suffer severe injuries, a grave punishment a calgren could receive is to be exiled, as the tribe maybe be concerned if they eat the calgren they gain its weakness, all tribes have different traditions for cannibalism yet in each one its integral for spiritual purposes or surviving the blasted wastes, Though some chieftains can live to reach great ages through wisdom and strength though this is rare and requires a unique kind of calgren.     The War with the Kurzicks: One of the crucial aspects of history for both the Calgren and the Kurzicks is the everlasting war the two have between each other, it has raged for so long that no one remembers the true origins of it, though both sides have biased books or myths on how the other started it, even today its still a bloody and violent war, with each "campaign" lasting a month and having a massive death toll on both sides, with as many as 35 campaigns in a year if the lust for battle is particularly wanting, however, that may surprise many people is that the calgren see this as minor skirmishes and not really huge conflicts despite having a intense almost racially shared hatred for the kurzick they have not made a great horde as the shaman have decreed a calgren shall rise to lead this horde, so while the kurzick fight tooth and claw to try and regain some ground and hold what ground they can, the calgren simply fight when they want and feast when they can and even with casual approach they can easily decimate kurzick warrior battalions, which begs a great paranoia for the kurzick and other species for when and if this new Great Khan will rise to wipe out the kurzicks.     Mawrakdin: "The Great beast roars and the land quakes....the calgren come"   Mawrakdin: Is the Shadverun god of the feasts and starvation and one of the few gods that the Calgren worship, apart from the Great Khans, this beast resembles a mountain sized crocodile with three maws, iron like tail and a body that under day light has been said to simple be a empty black void, while in the night its scales may shine ike iron its flesh is as red as the skin of the calgren, and inside its maw is the same, with purple burning eyes thats close four ways, This god cares not for the calgren and the calgren know it, it is the cause of the endless hunger they are plagued with, but revere its strength and hold grand feasts, to feed its need to feel full, only for it to demand more for that is all that it is starvation, and while it provides boons to those who give into the hunger to a maniacal degree, the calgren while keeping the worship in every tribe know that if it could, it would devour them.   This extends to beyond death, another main factor of why the calgren worship the great beast is that they are tied to it spiritually, its hunger is thier hunger, when they die they are forced to face the great beast, if the creature deems that it has eaten to enough to be given another chance, the soul will be given back to akren who will make them a calgren again ((this is what the calgren truly believe and while it may have some sparkle of truth, the druids who worship akren in a deeper capacity would take doubt with akren remaking the calgren as calgren, speculating that he would just wipes the souls clean of memory and send them back into the world)) However if they did not eat enough to satify the god, it would devour their soul and they would spend eternity digesting them in its stomach with other calgren in a perpetual cycle of cannibalism and burning agony.   The Great Hordes Religion: While the God of feasts and starvation is the one god the calgren are someone force to worship the Great khans are Calgren that are worshipped enmass willingly as idealistic representations of what a calgren can be with shamans asking for wisdom or chieftains asking for advice on how to lead thier clans they have Four great Khans to draw strength from.   These gods are ascended calgren Gods, which means that in life they had such a impact on the world that when they died the continued to do what they were known for in life as empowered spirits gaining enough influence and followers among the calgren to ascend to godhood living in the "Famisted lands" along fighting a endless war against Mawrakdin to wrestle the souls he has devoured free   All the Great khans become the way they are through the same manner, rallying the enough of the calgren in a massive locust like swarm descending south and devouring and slaughtering everything in their path, every time the Great horde has only barely been stopped by actions of great people or a united front from unexpected allies, its the Great khan will only that forces the calgren to stay united, so when the khan dies the calgren break apart and return to the blasted wastes, some tribes settling south and inter mingling with other half giant species, Thier are Five Great khans as of the current day.     CalGuuut: The First Warlord this warlord was revered for the security and assurance he he brought, showing it was possible to unite the Khans during an early period when the khurizick had almost wiped the calgren out, he led the calgren and drove them nearly of the Great isle of everstarve and some speculate would have pushed into the capital if not he had not been killed by his brother the night before the final battle in during. He is the Calgren Patron of security and unity.     GooolBark: The Sea warlord this warlord in hated and despised by the Soltari for the fact he destroyed two of the largest and only Galleons The "Leviathans Maw" and the "Krakens Pride" while wiping out the crew of the First Soltari Admiral making him watch as the Khan ate his crew. the warlord was renowned for having a ship to himself as he coudnt physically walk due to his weight but showed a unusual amount of tactical intelligence that led to his great fleet which was just a massive heap of wood with calgren boarding attacks causing chaos for the newly found akretti empire and soltari crews for years until it disappeared reasons after sailing far west for what happened to him is unclear, most believe he is dead due to the fact his spirit speaks to those large enough to potentially become Khan, but some Shamans are sceptical. He is the Patron for Calgren cunning, Tactics, and sailing.       FatAxe: A Warlord that Destroyed the first and only attempt of the Wood Elfiry capital and making a kingdom burning it to kindling and slaughtering all of its inhabitants, this Warlord was seen not for his combat strength but for his brutality, as even today scholars refuse to write about the atrocities he committed in his great march even to the present day, he would have marched to sharllion if he had not killed by a surviving Oak Elfiry assassin that become Talaran one of two Wood Elfiry God of retributions. He is the partron of Wrath and Carnage for the Calgren with them calling upon him in battle to send them into blood curdling rage.       Suuulre "The Shade": A Shade Born Calgren who led a great horde south towards Sharllion and killed one of the stone Dukes of the Stone Elfiry, she led this horde due to the new rule the stone elfiry put in place that allowed them to force breed races for more slaves and sickening experiments, The shade created a great horde and shattered the great gate of Sharllion the only one to ever do it, however most Calgren and even the shamanhood consider this Warlord weak due to the compassion she showed other races as well as being female, despite the great achievement, however who calgren do revere her she has as Khan of practicality and allying to fight greater foes, she is also worshipped by soltari as one of the few gods in the chainbreaker pantheon as well as see being one of the ascended pantheon to be commonly allowed to be worshipped by other races except of course in sharllion she is the only calgren Great khan who died of old age.       Naming Conventions: Calgren give themselves names that sound big and tough ie MULGOOTH, VURUNKACK, CARLDRUUUG unless your a priest then you choose a title that represents your deeds, even then its supposed to sound "mystical" an example would be "she that sees death" "Chewer of bones"   Size: These massive beings at most can reach 25 foot, while shortest tends to be 15 foot, but the average usually hits 20 foot tall.   Lifespan-age: The Calgren reaches maturity at 50 ((if they survive that long)) and can live up to 150 years though some claim isolated cases of Calgren being 300 and even 2000 though this is unconfirmed.   Alignment:Due to Brutality of the species as well as the harshness and cruelty they go through on a daily basis in the blasted wastes, the Calgren naturally lean towards an evil alignment, though there has been small cases of Calgren escaping and gaining a better morality this is rare even in this case the morality is extremely skewered as they are Carnivores and slave herders, eating any species and torturing slaves that misbehave so even those who are *good* tend to be very out of touch with the morality of other races, however there are some clans that have established themselves in a more neutral standing, while still keeping the cannibalistic nature are far more apathetic to outsides, never friendly but not hostile, however this is only due to the Chieftain and shamans power, it only take a hateful son or shaman to make the calgren their brutal self's again.

race features:
Racial Feat.   Horns of the Calgriniosh Crown, Due to Tribal caste system and how horns grow on the Calgren head, it can grow in two postions at every 90 degree angle or 45 degree angle, if the horns grow at 45 degree angles, the calgren while lacking more common sense, seem to be faster than their 90 angle brethren, while those with horns growing at 90 degree angles seem to have more common sense, yet react slower than their counterparts (this trait allows the players to pick either -2 dexterity or wisdom as the racial modifier))     The Endless Feast: The Calgrens stomach and soul demands to be constantly filled, younger calgren while not strong enough to resist the urge, the more older calgren have learned to channel this hunger, feeding their bodies and mind in ways that terrify their enemies.   ((calgren must eat double the normal amount of rations, of their creature size, to support this calgren get proficiency, in survival, if proficiency is already acquired, gain expertise, if the calgren already has expertise gain +4))   However if the calgren does not eat enough ((see dnd ration for huge monsters)) the calgren hunger takes over thier mind and the calgren must roll a wisdom saving throw of dc 14, if they fail they lose control and try to devour the nearest creature, hostile or nonhostile, after devouring of (medium or 3 small size)) the calgren regains control.   3: The Calgren gains the ability to feast upon a corpse during combat as an action, feasting on a corpse takes the entire turn (and following turns depending on size of corpse)) and if the calgren is attacked or put any any effect that effects movement, prone, sleep, knocked down, the ability is cancelled, Eating a corpse restores health to a calgren the amount of health is tied to the size of the corpse as well as effects how long it takes to devour.   Tiny+Small: Can be performed on the same time but takes an action restores 1d4 health + con modifier   Medium: Requires one turn to Devour restores 2d6 health + con modifier.   Large: Requires two turns to Devour restores 3d8 health + con modifier.   Huge: Requires three turn to Devour restores 4d12 health + con modifier.     6: Feasting on a corpse now terrifies those who witness it as the calgren brutalises the corpse all enemies within 60 feet or within viewing of the devour must roll a dc 14 wisdom or become feared.     9: Devouring a small+tiny corpse can be done as a bonus action, all tiers of feasting have time reduced by one turn.   ((ie Medium: Requires one turn to Devour restores 2d6 health + conmodifier. > Medium: Can be performed on the same time but takes an action restores 2d6 health + con modifier)) gain resistance to physical nonmagical types when devouring.))       12: Any source of meat/corpse can now provide the benefits of healing, even tainted meat which can no longer harm the calgren, In addition to this, the Calgren while devouring becomes so enraptured in his feasting that any magical spells that would effect him ((moving, charmed, feared, knocked away ect)) he/she rolls advantage against.       15: Regeneration: The calgren consuming so much meat that his stomach slowly starts to resolve the calgren from the inside considering its sustenance, however due to this the calgren regenerates naturally to counter this, recovering 1d10+con at the start of his turn. ((if the calgren is at 0hp and the clagren is rolling for death saving throws the hp is stored in a pool and instantly added if the calgren gets back up, Necrotic/cold damage can pause the regeneration for 1d4))       The Khans of the Wastes: The Blasted wastes are a cruel and unforgiving place, The calgren learned how to thrive and grow strong, becoming resistant and sometimes even immune to the dangers that would threaten them while unleashing their rage onto those that would dare challenge them.     4: Become Resistant to poison (at lvl 8 become immune)) Including gaining a proficiency in intimidation and being able to use strength modifier for it.     7: Gain the Sentinel feat     10: Gain the Aggressive Trait, become immune to difficult terrain when in arid/tropical climates.
Body Description: The Dark Red skinned halfgiants are lumbering monsters with a massive stomach, due to the fact that the fatter and larger you are the more respected you are.   They have three fingers and a thumb for each hand and six toes in total, on their head are three large horns on the top of that are placed in a circle that if without any hair from a distance could look like a crown, however smarter calgren have more horns with every added horn being signifying a +1 above normal (that being standard 10), reaching a max of +12 intelligence and 9 extra horns , the opposite is true the less horns a calgren has the less intelligent they are,Calgren usually have 2 pairs of eyes, each eye being a different colour with one always being a blood red, they pride themselves in have as many tattoos and scars as possible, clothing wise, they wear massive leather and scale like clothes harvested from, local Uldren lizard clans, the dress style is akin to primitive tribal attire, loincloths and leather armour similar in style to the irish during the bronze age. (replacing metal with scaly leather)
